As the Delta State House of Assembly prepares to resume plenary following the Christmas and New Year break, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Nkem Nwaeke, has expressed optimism about the year ahead, emphasizing the potential for a productive legislature and enhanced prosperity for Delta State.
In his remarks on the prospects for 2026, Nwaeke highlighted that the 8th Delta Assembly, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, aims to deepen its commitment to people-oriented governance.
He noted that the new year presents a fresh opportunity for robust lawmaking, effective oversight, and constructive engagement with the executive and other stakeholders.
“The Christmas and New Year recess has allowed members ample time for consultations with constituents to evaluate policy priorities and reflect on the socio-economic challenges facing the people,” Nwaeke stated. He assured that as plenary resumes, the Assembly is ready to translate these engagements into tangible legislative actions addressing critical issues such as economic growth, job creation, security, infrastructure development, education, healthcare delivery, and social welfare.
Nwaeke emphasized that 2026 will see a focus on passing vital bills aimed at strengthening institutions, enhancing transparency, and improving public service delivery. “Legislative interventions aimed at boosting internally generated revenue, supporting small and medium enterprises, and fostering a conducive environment for investment will be prominent on the House’s agenda,” he added.
Under the dynamic leadership of Speaker Guwor, Nwaeke affirmed that the Assembly will maintain its core focus on oversight functions to ensure accountability in government policies and projects.
He stressed that effective oversight is crucial for ensuring that public resources are utilized wisely and that government programs yield real benefits for citizens.
“Speaker Guwor has consistently highlighted the importance of cooperation and mutual respect amongst government branches. In 2026, the Assembly will uphold its harmonious relationship with the executive while maintaining its constitutional independence, essential for timely bill passage and smooth execution of development plans,” Nwaeke noted.
Additionally, he pointed out the Assembly’s commitment to inclusivity and responsiveness. As the year progresses, Nwaeke anticipates increased engagement with stakeholders, including the media, to ensure that legislation reflects the diverse aspirations of society.
In conclusion, he expressed firm confidence in Speaker Guwor’s leadership, stating, “Deltans look to the Assembly not just for laws but for leadership, advocacy, and solutions. The Speaker will continue to inspire his colleagues towards greater achievement in this regard.”
“With collective resolve and purposeful leadership, 2026 holds great promise for a productive legislature and a more prosperous Delta State,” Nwaeke asserted.
