By Chancel Bomadi Sunday
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Ex-agitators Forum, in collaboration with the Bomadi Political Vanguard, has issued a stern warning against acts of betrayal, propaganda and slanderous campaigns among the Ijaw community in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.
During a peaceful demonstration jointly organized by these two groups in Bomadi, the administrative centre of Bomadi local government area in Delta State, over the weekend, the leaders of both groups coordinated and led the protest.
They cautioned that such unseemly political conduct would result in disunity among the Delta Ijaw and lead to regression in the area.
The protesters, brandishing placards vociferously chanted as they marched through the streets of the riverside town, ultimately gathering at the Bomadi Roundabout. Some of the inscriptions on the placards read: “Engage the electorate in your campaigns, cease the campaign of calumny; Follow who know road, Hon. Mutu possesses the constitutional right to contest; We endorse Mutu’s re-election in 2027; Mutu is a man of the people,” and among others.
In his address, Hon. Roland Agbere, leader of the Bomadi Political Vanguard, remarked that the Political Vanguard, comprising concerned youths from across Bomadi local government area, had been deeply involved in the state’s political affairs over the years.
He emphasized their commitment to continue advocating for the commendable efforts of the incumbent legislator, Hon. Mutu, whose political contributions have brought joy to many constituents.
“Mutu has consistently excelled over the years, and we shall persist in our unwavering support for his commendable endeavours. Through this medium, I implore political actors to refrain from engaging in political propaganda against Mutu. Instead, they should focus on appealing to the electorate during their campaigns, as the masses will only cast their votes for a candidate who is both tested and proven.
“Regarding the Bomadi Political Vanguard, our steadfast endorsement is for Hon. Mutu in the 2027 general elections, as he has demonstrated his reliability and competence. We have supported him throughout the years, and we shall do so again in 2027.
“Mutu stands out as an exceptional political figure, and we shall not be swayed; the errors of the past will not be repeated. The Bomadi Political Vanguard remains resolute in re-election Hon. Mutu, for he has consistently fulfilled the expectations of the populace,” he declared.
The chairman, APC Ex-agitators Forum, General Para Ekiyes, in his message to Delta Ijaw, said that Ijaw embodies truth and unity. He implored all participants in the politics to adhere to the established rules, emphasizing the necessity to eschew politics steeped in betrayal and confusion.
He disclosed that the APC Ex-agitators had meticulously examined the achievements of the current lawmaker over the years, and lauded his commendable performance in Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency.
He stated: “My message to the people of the Ijaw nation is that the essence of Ijaw is truth and unity. We must refrain from engaging in betrayal and avoid sowing division among our people. Those vying for positions should engage with the electorate to earn their acceptance, rather than resorting to campaigns of slander and propaganda. Such practices should be rescinded, as they are displeasing to the electorate.
“Regarding Hon. Mutu, it is well acknowledged that he is a benevolent and devoted leader to both his constituents and the Ijaw nation at large, having served his constituency commendably over the years.
We, therefore, express our unwavering support for his re-election in 2027, as it is his constitutional prerogative.
“Those attempting to coax our industrious governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, into the political arena of Bomadi/Patani should desist immediately. They must refrain from jeopardizing the amicable relationship between Mutu and Gov. Oborevwori for selfish gain”.
Various other speakers delivered speeches, including women’s groups, who championed continuity and expressed their deep admiration for Mutu, as well as their unwavering trust in his representation.
