Following the recent landslide that swept off Buildings and the major jetty in Akugbene community,Bomadi local government Chairman Hon Dagidi Andaye has appealed to the Federal and Delta State Governments to provide lasting solutions to prevent the community from being submerged by persistent coastal erosion .
Hon Andaye who was accompanied by the vice chairman of the council Hon Poweide Guembe Bekes and key stakeholders
made the Appeal on Friday when he paid an on- the- spot accessement of the deplorable condition of parts of Akugbene community affected by the landslide.
The Bomadi council Boss noted that the alarming rate of erosion has threatened the existence of the Akugbene kingdom and other communities in Bomadi local government area.
While noting that the construction of shore wall will save the Akugbene community from being washed away into the focados river , Hon Andaye appealed to the Federal and Delta State governments as well as interventionist agencies to partner with the Bomadi Local Government Council to provide a lasting solution to the menace .

Hon Andaye stated that 90 percent of the communities in Bomadi local government are in the riverine areas and have similar coastal erosion problems .
He further revealed that the council after accessing the damage done by the landslide will provide palliatives to the affected residents and also build temporary structures for those displaced by the ravaging landslide to alleviate their sufferings.
Bomadi council Boss commended the community youths for making frantic efforts to save the damaged Jetty areas from further destruction by the erosion and thanked God that no life was lost during the incident.
Akugbene community chairman Mr Cletus Edougha and other residents took Bomadi council chairman and his entourage round the affected areas where they saw some cracked buildings as a result of the landslide that occurred .
Mr Edougha revealed that most of them now sleep with one eye open as they are afraid of another incident and appealed for a quick intervention by the federal and state governments .
While revealing that the jetty recently constructed by Delta State government,fishing nets ,houses and canoes were submerged as a result of the landslide ,the community chairman called for relief materials to cushion the effects of the landslide on the people .
Also speaking a lawyer and resident of the area Mr Patrick Ogele appealed for a permanent solution to the coastal erosion that is affecting the community.
For her part Mrs Suogha Gbawei also lamented that her entire means of livelihood had gone in a minute as she and her children Now live in a tent.
Mrs Gbawei a widow stated that she now beg to feed because the erosion has washed away her store.
