In a bold step towards ensuring a healthier future for the girl child, the First Lady of Aniocha South, Mrs. Ella Jude Chukwunwike , alongside the Vice Chairman of Aniocha South, Hon. Patricia Ekwutozam Adolue, proudly participated in the official launch of the OYA! Campaign, themed:
“Protecting Our Girls Against Cervical Cancer Through HPV Vaccination.”
The impactful event took place at the Delta State Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.
This timely and life-saving initiative, organized by Girl Effect in collaboration with the Delta State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (DSPHCDA), marks a significant milestone in the collective fight against cervical cancer in Delta State.
The OYA! Campaign is designed to raise awareness on the critical importance of vaccinating girls—especially those aged 9 years—with the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, a globally recommended intervention proven to prevent most cases of cervical cancer. With cervical cancer ranking as the second most common cancer among women in Nigeria, this campaign could not have come at a more crucial time.
Mrs. Chukwunwike, who also serves as the Coordinator of the Forum of Wives of Council Chairmen in Delta State, reaffirmed her unwavering support for the campaign. She passionately called on parents, caregivers, community leaders, and stakeholders across all sectors to embrace and promote this life-saving measure.
“The future of our girls depends on the decisions we make today,” she stated. “A simple vaccine can be the difference between life and death. Let us choose to protect them now—for a future that is healthy, cancer-free, and full of possibilities.”
Also emphasized during the launch was the importance of balanced nutrition and healthy lifestyles as complementary strategies in disease prevention and overall wellness.
This advocacy is not just about vaccination—it’s a movement to educate, empower, and protect. It is a clarion call to action:
OYA! Protect her future. Support HPV vaccination. Support healthy living. Support a cancer-free generation.
Together, we can ensure that every girl grows up safe, strong, and shielded from preventable diseases.
