Livestock farmers in Warri South Local Government Area, who flout the Delta State Anti-Open Grazing Law, may have to pay a fine of N100,000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) as the Warri South Local Government Special Taskforce for Security, headed by Comr. Ofoyeju Izuagie, begins enforcement of the law in Warri South.

The decision to begin enforcement of the law, was reached at an enlarged security meeting held at the Warri South Council Main Secretariat in Warri, Monday November 11.

The meeting, which was presided over by Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Comr. Weyinmi Isaac Agbateyiniro, was attended by representatives of various security agencies, Arewa community in Warri and other critical stakeholders.

Warri South Council Supervisor for Agriculture, Hon. Amiwe Pinnick Mofe, who addressed newsmen in Warri, Wednesday November 13, noted that livestock such as cow, goat and dog, will not be allowed to stray in major roads and streets in Warri.

“We are not saying they shouldn’t rear livestock, but it should be done in confined spaces within communities, to avoid situations, where the livestock litter the roads and streets with faeces.

“Should any animal be found straying on the road, such animal will be confiscated by the local government council. We expect the owners to come within seven days to claim their livestock, and if they fail to show up within the seven days, the local government Council will sell the livestock at a subsidized amount to members of the public. The fee for breaking the law is N100,000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Niara)” Hon. Amiwe, explained.

The Coordinator of Warri South Special Taskforce for Security, Comrade Festus Otesiri Igherebuo, who also spoke to newsmen, said they have already commenced enforcement of the Anti-Open Grazing Law.

Comr. Igherebou, asserted: “We align with the Delta State Anti-Open Grazing Law, it is in-line with the policy objective of the Comr. Weyinmi Agbateyiniro’s administration to brand Warri.

“We will make sure that livestock, no longer litter the streets of Warri with their faeces.

“We engaged leaders of the various communities in Warri, to make them understand the reasons why every community should key in into this enforcement.”
