Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has been commended for his visionary leadership, and proactive steps taken to ensure that the state is peaceful, safe and conducive for investors and residents.

The Director-General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, made the commendation through a live programme, Orientation Panorama on Delta Broadcasting Service, Asaba on Wednesday.

Dr. Oghenesivbe reiterated the state government’s determination to ensure Delta State remained one of the safest states to live in, especially during the Yuletide when so many people would be visiting the state for Christmas and New Year celebrations.

He lauded the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for donating 31 Hilux vans to the Delta State Police Command and other security agencies in the state, to boost their efforts at combating crime in the state.

According to him, though security of lives and property is the responsibility of the Federal Government, security is everyone’s business and as a responsible state, the State Governor would continue to support the Federal Government to ensure security of life and property in line with the Enhanced Peace and Security encapsulated in his MORE agenda.

“For tourism to strive, we need to secure the state through investments in security to attract development, tourists, trade and investments to provide jobs for our people.

“His Excellency is a man of action and a promise keeper. One of the cardinal objectives of his administration is to enhance peace and security in the state.

“The state government procured 31 latest, brand new Hilux vans and reconditioned them to meet the operational needs of the police, and were presented to the Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, on Tuesday at Government House, Asaba.

“This is in addition to the operational vehicles earlier donated before the recent 31 Hilux vans. Delta State now has reasonable number of Hilux vans in each police divisional headquarters to respond to distress calls, and more may be added in the near future. The 31 vans are being distributed right now.

“These brand new vehicles will help the police to respond to distress calls and for surveillance. The strategies are quite unique. Soon, the issue of insecurity will be gone forever,” he added.

He stated that the state government is partnering with the youths who are the productive force through the Delta State Job and Wealth Creation Bureau and other youth entrepreneurship programmes in the state.

“The idle mind is the devil’s workshop. Once these youths are engaged, they will focus on meaningful ventures and stay out of crime. The focus of the State Governor is not on white collar job which are non-existence, rather on skill acquisition, vocational skills, entrepreneurship development and agriculture to fast-track the overall economic development of the state,” he reaffirmed.

He encouraged citizens, owners of shopping malls and business premises to comply by the state government’s directive to install CCTV cameras to monitor their surroundings to compliment the security efforts of the state government at securing lives and property.

The State Bureau of Communications and Orientation Director Deneral disclosed that very soon, his team would commence sensitization of the public through the mass media on the need to safeguard their premises through the installation of CCTV cameras.

He re-enforced that non-compliance would either attract jail term or fine as penalties for defaulters depending on the level of negligence.

Dr Oghenesivbe called on all Deltans to be vigilante and conscious of their environment and surroundings, advising them to ensure they have the emergency phone numbers of the Delta Police Command for quick response in times of distress
