The forward-thinking security initiative of the Executive Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government, Hon.( Pastor) Jude Chukwunwike, has received significant national validation following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent endorsement of a federal policy aimed at bolstering forest management and national security.
During his 2024 electioneering campaign, Hon. Chukwunwike pledged to tackle the growing security threats in the local government—particularly the surge in kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes—by establishing an agency Forest Corps dedicated to securing the forests in the council.
The operatives, selected from local communities, are expected to possess firsthand knowledge of the terrain, forest boundaries, and various entry points often exploited by criminal elements.

True to his word, the council chairman initiated the process of recruiting able-bodied men with proven familiarity with the surrounding forests and boundaries. Although initially met with cautious optimism, the initiative is now being celebrated in light of President Tinubu’s nationwide directive reintroducing forest security measures to curb insecurity and eliminate criminal hideouts.
The federal government’s announcement is widely seen as a validation of the Aniocha South chairman’s strategic foresight and commitment to grassroots-driven security solutions. Many residents and stakeholders have described his leadership as proactive, courageous, and in sync with national priorities.
“This is a commendable example of local governance rising to meet complex challenges,” said a traditional leader from Ubulu-Uku. “Our chairman’s decision to act early has now placed Aniocha South in a position of leadership and example for the rest of the country.”
Security experts and community leaders have also praised the Forest Corps initiative for its potential to close the gap between formal security agencies and local intelligence networks, which are often critical in detecting and neutralizing threats before they escalate.
As the federal government commences broader implementation of its forest security framework, Aniocha South is poised to become a model for sustainable community-led security initiatives. The local government’s efforts underscore the power of visionary leadership grounded in the realities of the people.
With growing federal support, the people of Aniocha South are now hopeful that peace and stability will soon be fully restored, making the forests safer and reclaiming the land from criminal elements.
