The All Progressives Congress in Delta State, on Sunday, adopted President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as the party’s sole candidates for the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement came at an APC Stakeholders Meeting held at the State Banquet Hall, Government House, Asaba, which drew together top leaders of the party, serving and former National and State lawmakers, Commissioners, Local Government Council chairmen, and others across Delta’s three senatorial districts.
Recall that Oborevwori, his predecessor Ifeanyi Okowa and all other PDP members in the state were received into the All Progressives Congress in April 2025.
After what was described as a movement into APC by the then Delta PDP, there had been alleged issues in the party among the leaders; hence, they could not summon an enlarged meeting of leaders of the party.
The meeting may not be unconnected to the recent suspension of Omo-Agege’s loyalists, who were to have control of a section of the party’s grassroots structure.
However, a motion of confidence was moved by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and seconded by the former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei.
While moving the motion, Keyamo praised President Tinubu’s “bold reforms and transformative leadership,” citing the removal of fuel subsidy as a responsible policy decision that redirected billions into critical national infrastructure.
Seconding the motion, which was unanimously adopted, Victor Ochei hailed Tinubu and Oborevwori’s inclusive governance and developmental impact across Nigeria and Delta State.
In his remarks, Oborevwori expressed deep gratitude to the APC stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him and Tinubu, pledging to continue delivering on his development agenda for Delta State.
“I want to thank you for the confidence reposed in us and for accepting us as sole candidates in 2027.
“The APC is growing stronger by the day because more governors will join us before the end of November,” he said.
The governor commended Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as “a man who rewards loyalty, commitment, and results.”
The governor warned against disloyalty within the party, stressing that some members who did not work for the APC during the last elections had benefited unduly.
“Some in power today didn’t work for the APC, but we know them. When the time comes, we will expose them. This time, loyalty will be rewarded, not hypocrisy,” he declared.
Immediate past Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, expressed delight at the gathering, describing the April 28, 2025, mass defection into the APC as “a turning point in the state’s political history.”
“Today, I can confidently say that joining the APC was the right step in the right direction.
“The party is now stronger, more united, and better positioned for victory in 2027,” Okowa said.
