Delta Assembly Sets Up Committee To Probe Polytechnic Crisis

The Delta State House of Assembly has set up a seven member ad-hoc committee to investigate the lingering crisis rocking the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, in Aniocha South local government area.

The Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor at Wednesday’s plenary of the House, announced the setting up of the ad-hoc committee for the adoption of a motion brought under matters of urgent public importance by the Member Representing Aniocha South Constituency, Hon Isaac Anwuzia, following reports of deepening rift between the Governing Council and Management of the Institution.

Hon Anwuzia in the motion expressed concern over what he described as an “unhealthy working relationship” between the Governing Council and the Management of the Polytechnic, warning that the development was already affecting the smooth administration and public image of the institution.

According to the Lawmaker who is the Chairman, House Committee on Peace and Security, the disagreements rooted in administrative and financial issues have escalated into a serious institutional crisis, posing a threat to the rising profile of the Polytechnic.

Hon Anwuzia explained that the motion seeks to restore peace and ensure accountability within the institution, and drew the attention of members to the importance of maintaining stability in tertiary education in the state.

The motion reads, “Mr. Speaker, my name is Hon. (Chief) Anwuzia Isaac Ozo Ph.D, Member representing the good people of Aniocha South State Constituency.

“Mr. Speaker, I rise this morning to bring to the attention of this Honourable House the unhealthy working relationship between the Governing Council and the Management of the Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi-Uku.

“Mr. Speaker, this crisis between the Governing Council and the Management of the Polytechnic is beginning to take a toll on the smooth administration of the Polytechnic.

“I therefore move that this Honourable House investigates the general affairs of the Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi-Uku from 2023 till date following the deepening conflict between the Rector and the Governing Council of the Polytechnic stemming from administrative and financial disagreements that has escalated into serious institutional crisis that currently is threatening the rising profile of the Polytechnic so as to bring to an end the conflict”, Anwuzia added.

The Speaker, Rt Hon Guwor in a swift reaction constituted a Seven man ad-hoc committee led by the Leader of the House, Hon Emeka Nwaobi, to investigate the crisis and report back to the House on 28 October, 2025.
