The Delta State Ministry of Primary Education, has condemned the recent alleged defilement of a -4 year old child of Great Leaders International School, Ime-Obi, Agbor in Ika South Local Government Area by the proprietor of the school, one Mr. Innocent Ezeukwu.
A statement by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Augustine Oghoro, on behalf of the Commissioner in charge of Ministry of Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu described the act as wicked and barbaric.
The statement wondered why a teacher supposed to be a key player in the upbringing of learners in his care should carry out such a dehumanizing act.
It said that the State Police Command has already swung into action by arresting the culprit, adding that the proprietor of the school would face deep consequences of his action to serve as a deterrent to others.
The statement clarified that the Great Leaders International School was one of the unauthorized schools that had long been shut down by the State Ministry of Primary Education.
It advised parents to register their children and wards in only approved schools by the State Government, stressing that the State Commissioner for Primary Education had closed down the Great Leaders International School.
Meanwhile, the Delta State Government (DTSG) has warned parents to desist from going to school to molest teachers for disciplining their children in school.
The Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Oghoro handed down the warning while reacting to the recent incident that occurred in a Public Secondary School in Agbor where a teacher was attacked by a parent for disciplining his erring son and in the process the teacher died .
Oghoro, who described the incident as unfortunate and condemnable, berated a similar incident that occurred at Ehwerhe Secondary School, Agbarho on the October 19 where it was alleged that a group of students led by one master Oyibo Precious and other students were causing problem to teachers and other students in the school.
In a statement, the Permanent Secretary expressed displeasure with the attitude of parents of four of the 21 students that were to be expelled from the school for their alleged threat to the life of a teacher and terror acts in the school following the decision of the meeting held between the Ehwerhe Community and the teachers in the school.
The statement noted that the school has been closed down, recalling that the parents of the affected four students came to the school and attacked a community representative and left him with injuries.
The statement urged parents to desist from taking laws into their hands but avail themselves of the available channels through the Ministries of Primary and Secondary Education, the Post Primary Education Board (PPEB) and the office of the Chief Inspectors of Education whenever they had issues with the teachers for amicable resolution rather than resort to violent actions against teachers.
