…Treats over 1,600 constituents

BOMADI—The lawmaker representing Patani/Bomadi Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Nicholas Ebomo Mutu, has launched a free medical outreach programme in riverine communities to cater for various health challenges of his constituents.
Mutu, who launched the six-day programme in three locations within the constituency in conjunction with Veekites Global Services, last week, also employed medical experts to tackle serious health challenges.
Speaking with newsmen, the legislative aid to the lawmaker, Barr. Ebitimi Ogbomah, disclosed that Mutu deemed it necessary to launch the programme to attend to various health challenges of his people, stressing that everything was free and that no dime was collected from patients.
“Health is wealth and the lawmaker considers paramount the well-being of his people, and that is the main reason for launching this free medical outreach programme.
“This programme is a yearly ritual because he always wants his people to be healthy all the time. It’s a six-day programme in three locations within the constituency, which are Akugbene, Bomadi and Patani, and where constituents in neighbouring communities within the designated locations can go and receive their treatments”, he said.
The Managing Director/CEO of Veekites Global Services, Mr Victor Isereke, lauding the initiative said: “This is a laudable initiative, Mutu deemed it fit to bring this free medical outreach to his people and it’s highly commendable”.
However, a total number of 1,613 patients were treated with various ailments and diseases after going through various tests, which included typhoid and malaria, eye surgeries, dental surgeries, de-worming, hypertensive cases and among others.
A pharmacist, Ms Karina Ogbetor, speaking with reporters disclosed that prevalent cases discovered so far among patients were typhoid, malaria, diarrhea and hypertensive cases, stressing appropriate medical attention were given to patients who came for treatments.
“So far, we have received and treated cases such as hypertension, malaria, typhoid, de-worming and diarrhea. All have been give appropriate medications after thorough tests and examination and people are really receptive, they are responding to treatment”, she said.
Dr Melody Onigie, a dentist engaged for the programme and who emphasized on regular dental care, said: “We have treated people with dental issues. Some of them were treated, some were excavated if the need be and some others who had their teeth removed through accidents were replaced with artificial teeth.
“I advise everyone to pay regular visit to dentists to have their teeth checked”.
An optometrist, Dr Kingsley Egwe, on his part said: “So far, we have tested and treated conditions such as glaucoma and cataract which are more common among patients. We have given some of them glasses if the need be.
“I advise such patients in riverine communities to see their doctors regularly to avoid avoidable blindness.
“I also commend the lawmaker for bringing this programme to his constituents, I really thank him for fulfilling the mandate of the people”.
However, lauding the lawmaker for the good gesture, beneficiaries expressed their heartfelt gratitudes, describing the programme a step in the right direction and urged him to continue with the programme.
Chief Bonny Abura, who thanked Hon. Mutu for a job well done after taking his treatment, said: “This is indeed a step in the right direction and let him continue with this programme. It is a very good initiative and let Mutu continue his good job”.
Another beneficiary, Mr Sibor Etolumoh, who hailed from Ezebiri community, said: “Mutu has done well and I thank him for this good job. This free medical outreach has helped us a lot over the years and I thank him for his good job”.
Many other beneficiaries also speaking from both Patani and Bomadi localities, expressed their heartfelt gratitudes with prayers for the lawmaker and his family.
