The Delta State Police Command has condemned an unprovoked attack on its officers by personnel of the Nigerian Airforce attached to the Airforce Base in Jeddo, Okpe local government area of the State.

The altercation, described as an “embarrassing situation” by the command, unfolded on February 11, 2025, when police officers on patrol encountered and pursued fleeing suspects, leading to a confrontation at the Airforce checkpoint.

According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO), SP Edafe Bright, operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) had flagged down a Toyota Corolla with registration number AKD-73-FL during a routine crime prevention patrol.

However, upon spotting the officers, the occupants of the vehicle attempted to escape on foot.

The police team apprehended one suspect, identified as Ibohama Precious (25 years old), and recovered illicit substances, including Indian hemp, Canadian Loud, and other hard drugs.

While transporting the suspect and the seized drugs to the station, the officers were halted at the Airforce checkpoint in Jeddo, where Airforce personnel demanded the release of the suspect.

When the police refused to comply, insisting on due process, the Airforce personnel allegedly resorted to physical assault on the officers without justification.

Expressing disappointment over the incident, the Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its strong working relationship with the Nigerian Airforce, Navy, Army, and other security agencies in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, and Airforce authorities are currently investigating the matter and implementing measures to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.

The command assured the public that inter-agency cooperation remains a priority and that security forces will continue to work together to maintain law and order across the state.
