As Nigeria marks Democracy Day today, June 12, 2025, the Executive Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government, Hon. (Pastor )Jude Chukwunwike , has called on Nigerians to stay united in diversity and rekindle their faith in the democratic system as the surest path toward national renewal, peace, and sustainable development.
In a statement released on Thursday, Pastor Chukwunwike praised the resilience of Nigerians who, despite economic and social challenges, have remained steadfast in their belief in the democratic process.
He urged residents of the council not to lose hope but to continue lending their voices and support toward shaping a brighter and more prosperous nation.
“As we commemorate this historic day, I encourage every Nigerian to keep believing in our democracy and its institutions,” Chukwunwike said. “The journey has not been without challenges, but democracy remains the most potent platform through which the people can chart their destiny by choosing leaders who represent their hopes and aspirations.”
The council boss paid glowing tribute to the heroes of Nigeria’s democracy, both past and present, who sacrificed greatly to secure freedom, accountability, and the voice of the people in governance.
He described democracy as a “priceless national treasure” that must be protected with unwavering commitment.
“Our democracy is not perfect, but it is ours to nurture, protect and improve,” he said. “We must continue to believe in it and defend it—not just for ourselves but for generations to come.”
Chukwunwike lauded the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose Renewed Hope Agenda, he said, is driving much-needed reforms in the country.
He also commended Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, for his MORE Agenda, and fellow council chairmen across the State for their people-centered initiatives that are keeping the flame of democracy alive at the grassroots.
“The commitment of these leaders to the welfare of our people reflects the true essence of democracy: service, development, and inclusion,” he stated.
Widely regarded as a grassroots-oriented and media-friendly leader, Chukwunwike reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to people-focused service in Aniocha South. He highlighted ongoing developmental strides across the council under his administration, aimed at improving lives and restoring hope to communities.
“My belief has always been that leadership is not just a privilege but a responsibility—to serve with integrity, to act with empathy, and to put the people first in all things,” he said. “This is not just my calling; it is my covenant with the people of Aniocha South.”
As the nation reflects on its democratic journey, Chukwunwike appealed for unity, patience, and collective responsibility among Nigerians, urging all to look beyond divisions and embrace a shared vision of progress.
“Let us draw strength from our diversity and work hand in hand to build the Nigeria of our dreams,” he said, adding that “democracy gives us that opportunity, and together, we must not let it slip away.”
He wished all Nigerians a peaceful and reflective Democracy Day, urging citizens to use the occasion as a reminder of their power to shape the future and reaffirm their role as custodians of democratic values.
