Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, praised Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, calling her a blessing to the nation during her grand homecoming reception at the palace of the Olu of Warri on Thursday.
Addressing a vibrant crowd that gathered early in the morning, Oborevwori acknowledged Senator Tinubu’s impressive legacy during her tenure in the Senate, where she focused on impactful policy advocacy for the benefit of Nigerians.
He emphasized her humility and compassion, stating, “Nigerians are blessed to have a First Lady who genuinely cares for the poor and vulnerable in our communities.”
Joining the Olu of Warri, HRM Ogiame Atuwatse III, in honoring the First Lady, Oborevwori noted this visit marks her third official trip to Delta State in two years.
He reminisced about her previous engagements, including the flag-off of the Renewed Hope Initiative empowerment program in Asaba and the launch of the Free to Shine program aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery in the region.
The governor lauded Senator Tinubu for her respect for traditional institutions, highlighting her respectful gestures towards the royal fathers during her visits. He added, “Even when we were in the opposition, she showed us love. God will continue to bless you.”
He also recognized her international stature, referencing her recent participation at the 4th National Prayer Congress in the United States, where she was honored as a respected global woman. “We are proud of the way you represented Nigeria on the global stage,” he stated.
Oborevwori reaffirmed Delta State’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms, assuring the First Lady that the state aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda for a better Nigeria.
On the infrastructural development front, the governor detailed the completion of significant projects, including the over 20-kilometer Trans-Warri Road and the Enerhen flyover, assuring ongoing enhancements towards the Nigerian Ports Authority corridor.
In her remarks, Senator Oluremi Tinubu expressed her deep emotions during the reception, calling her visit a “homecoming” filled with gratitude. She thanked the Olu of Warri for the honor and emphasized her Itsekiri heritage as foundational to her values and public service.
Highlighting the importance of national unity, she reflected on the overlapping Christian Lenten and Muslim fasting seasons, urging Nigerians to embrace togetherness beyond ethnic and religious boundaries.
As part of her Renewed Hope Initiative, Senator Tinubu announced a N50 million empowerment package for 1,000 women in petty trading within the kingdom and promised additional support for young men in collaboration with the state government.
The Olu of Warri described the First Lady’s visit as a divine ordination symbolizing unity and healing for the Niger Delta and Nigeria. He praised her humility, grace, and unwavering support for President Tinubu, assuring her of the kingdom’s prayers.
The vibrant reception, attended by dignitaries including former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and other notable leaders, was marked by cultural displays and a profound show of affection for the First Lady, highlighting the community’s strong support for her leadership style rooted in service and compassion.
