DELTA UNITY NETWORK, a pro-Democracy movement has taken a swipe at the state chapter of the All Progressives congress,APC for alleged plot to instigate violent protests in parts of the state,beginning from August 1st,2024.
In a statement issued by the chairman/ Convener,Delta Unity Network, Dr.Kingsley Etaghene
and Secretary ,Hon. Douglas Nwanne, the body said it has uncovered devious plans by the leadership of Delta APC to cause chaos and anarchy,using hired street urchins to protest, in the guise of economic hardship.
The group wondered why the state APC had surreptitiously turned itself to agent of destabilization,
working at cross purposes with the national leadership of the party and President Bola Tinubu who had since,warned against such protest in any part of the country.
It urged the federal government to call the state APC to order and admonished all residents of Delta to shun every selfish scheme to lure them into acts of mayhem and lawlessness.
According to the statement:
“Delta Unity Network stands against any ill -conceived protest .No political group or individual in Delta should be allowed to incite the people to participate in selfish protests.The prevailing peace in the state under the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori cannot be truncated overnight by few reactionary forces of regression.
“ Those who lost out at the 2023 state governorship elections can continue to mourn their defeat,but not with the lives and destinies of susceptible Deltans. The people cannot be deceived.
“Bitter detractors planning to recruit hooligans to unleash social unrest in the state over alleged economic difficulties are mere hypocrites. There is no bad governance in Delta .They should direct their thoughtless aggression and frustration elsewhere.The Oberevwori administration is not responsible for the current nation-wide socio -economic distress Nigerians are facing .
“On the contrary, we note that Governor Oborevwori has brought joy and fulfillment to majority of Deltans.With appreciable infrastructure development and various empowerment programmes aimed at poverty alleviation and wealth creation, Delta is working, making progress. The implementation of the governor’s laudable M.O.R.E Agenda is excellently on course.
“We join well meaning Deltans to say No to protests inimical to peace and development of our dear state” the group stated.
