As Nigeria celebrates her 65th Independence anniversary, the Executive Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government Council, Hon. Pastor Jude Chukwunwike , has paid glowing tributes to the nationalists and patriots who played leading roles in the struggle for freedom from colonial rule. He commended their sacrifices, courage, and unyielding commitment to the unity of the country, stressing that their legacy must inspire today’s leaders and citizens to keep the Nigerian dream alive.
In his Independence Day Message, the Executive Chairman also called on Nigerians to remain united, resilient, and committed to the task of building a greater nation. He acknowledged the challenges confronting the country, ranging from insecurity, unemployment, inflation, high cost of living, and economic pressures to disruptions in agriculture, the mainstay of many families in Aniocha South and the nation at large. He, however, affirmed that the spirit of resilience for which Nigerians are known will continue to see the nation through difficult times.
“Our dear country has endured many trials in the past six and a half decades, yet we remain one indivisible nation bound by hope, faith, and shared destiny. This Independence celebration is a reminder that together, as one people, we can overcome every challenge and build a brighter tomorrow,” Chukwunwike stated.
Consolidating Security and Protecting Lives
Hon. Chukwunwike noted that his administration has made consolidatory efforts in combating insecurity across Aniocha South, working hand-in-hand with security agencies and community vigilante groups. Among the landmark initiatives, he highlighted the training and retraining of vigilante officers, the purchase of over 40 motorcycles to enhance their mobility, and the completion of a divisional police station in Ubulu-Uku to bolster law enforcement capacity in the area.
He further pointed to the clearing of walkways and the opening of national grid corridors, previously exploited as hideouts by criminals; as strategic steps that have improved safety and visibility for both drivers and pedestrians. These, he emphasized, have contributed significantly to the gradual return of peace and orderliness across the local government.
*Advances in Healthcare Delivery*
On healthcare, the Chairman highlighted his administration’s investment in the renovation and multi-million-naira equipping of the Ubulu-Uku General Hospital, which now provides improved medical services to residents. He also announced the recent completion of the Adonte Matron’s Lodge, designed to enhance medical outreach and provide better accommodation for healthcare professionals working in the hinterlands.
*Agriculture, Education, and Human Capital Development*:
Hon. Chukwunwike underscored the administration’s strides in agriculture through farmers’ empowerment initiatives, including funding and the provision of farm implements to boost productivity and enhance food security. On education, several schools in dire need of infrastructural rehabilitation have been renovated, ensuring that children learn in safer and more conducive environments.
He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusivity and social safety nets, particularly through empowerment programmes tailored for women and persons living with disabilities (PwD).
*Driving Commerce and Economic Developmen*
To boost commerce and local trade, he noted that the council has completed the construction and rehabilitation of multi-million-naira modern markets in Nsukwa, Ubulu-Okiti, and Ogwashi-Uku, with more projects underway. These markets, the Chairman said, will serve as drivers of economic growth and enhance business opportunities for the people of Aniocha South with a multiplier effect on the council’s revenue.
*Commitment to Inclusive Governance*
As a grassroots government, Chukwunwike reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing community needs assessment reports in line with available resources, ensuring that every community feels the impact of governance.
He emphasized that women remain central to his administration’s inclusive agenda, with numerous interventions designed to uplift families and improve the overall quality of life for residents.
Hon. Chukwunwike urged residents of Aniocha South and Nigerians at large to continue to support the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, while also sustaining faith in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to steer the country on the path of unity, peace, and progress.
“As we mark this historic anniversary, let us remember that the task of nation-building is a collective responsibility. By working together, remaining vigilant, and staying united, we can overcome our challenges and leave behind a legacy of peace, purpose, and prosperity for generations to come. May God continue to bless Aniocha South, Delta State, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Happy Independence Anniversary, and welcome to October, a month that will bring us closer to our dreams”
