The Chairman of Lower Erejuwa Traders Association painfully noted that the damages caused by the inferno would not have been much , had it been that the Delta State Fire Service lived to its expectation.
” The fire fighters came to the scene of the fire with a faulty fire fighter vehicle . They could not do anything to put out the fire. They went back to their nearby station in Obahor Street, the way they came , inspite of the fact that they were duly informed about the fire incident on time.
” We always pay our annual fire service dues and yet they disappointed us at the time we needed them most” he added.
Okorie also recalled that the Executive Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council Hon Isaac Weyinmi Agbateyiniro sent his representative, one Hon Femi Okorodiden , the Supervisory Councillor For Environment to commiserate with us . He left with a promise that the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council will come to our aid. Since then , whenever we phone him for a reminder , he will say that they are in the process of doing something” he added
Okorie stated that they ( victims) are so worried because according to him, the Warri South Local Government Council has made good its promise of coming to the aid of victims of a similar fire incident in the nearby Igbudu Market.
” We do not know why our case is different. We have always supported the Delta State ruling political party . For we have our PVCS ” he added.
Okorie therefore humbly appealed to the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council to please keep to the promise he made to them.
He also used the opportunity to appeal to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to come to their aid as he recalled that Governor Oborevwori was represented by his appointees who he said also commiserated with them and left with a promise of informing him ( Governor Oborevwori)about the fire disaster.
He further appealed to the leadership of Ohaneaze Ndigbo Delta Central and South Senatorial Districts to come to their aid as he disclosed that some executive members of Ohaneaze Ndigbo Delta Central and South Senatorial Districts also commiserated with them after the inferno and promised to come to their aid.
