Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Friday night, emerged New Telegraph Newspaper “Governor of The Year, 2024” for his efforts in the infrastructural development of the state.

The award which is coming on the heels of a similar honour by THISDAY/ARISE MEDIA Group for fiscal discipline and infrastructural development of the state, was presented at a well attended ceremony held at Oriental Hotels in Lagos.

Governor Oborevwori who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, said the award meant a lot for the Governor and Deltans as it would deepen the partnership with the people of Delta State in delivering democratic dividends.

He said the Oborevwori administration had done well in improving infrastructure across the state by completing inherited and newly initiated projects without borrowing a dime.

According to him, “this award means a lot to us because what it means is that it’s making us to have that confidence that what we are doing as a government is what our people actually want us to do, and the whole world is seeing it.

“So, we are very happy and we thank the management of the New Telegraph Newspaper for recognizing what we are doing for our people in Delta State.

“This government made promises when we were coming on board. We told the people that this government is going to be government for the people, that we are going to do more, more in the area of infrastructure, which has just been stamped today.

“We have so many infrastructure projects in Delta State. All the ones we have inherited, we have either completed, or near completion. No one was abandoned.

“We have initiated new ones, which are also either completed or ongoing. So, we are doing what we were elected to do, to make life more meaningful for Deltans, that is why we are very happy with this award.

“To shock the whole world, all we have done to date, we have not borrowed a dime, that is to show the financial capability of our able governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

“All the areas that the government set out to work on, we are working on all. If you look at the field of education, I think we are the only state that has four public universities running very well.

“All these universities have been strengthened, day in, day out. A lot of projects going on. We have recruited teachers to ensure that our children get the best of education.

“When you go to the area of health, in the health sector, we are also strengthening all the health facilities that we have in the state and even building new ones.

“Right now, I can tell you that there’s a giant ongoing project for the College of Health Technology in Ovrode, in Delta State.

“In every field that we make Delta great, in the field of agriculture, we are there, in the area of human capital development, we are raising new entrepreneurs through the D-CARES programme and people are happy with us,” Onyeme added.

Chairman of the occasion, Chief Olabode George, said the award celebrates those who have contributed to the unity, growth and development of the country.

While calling on the coming generation to have a contrite spirit and to live their lives by contributing to the growth and advancement of the nation.

Publisher of the newspaper, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, congratulated the awardees on their well deserved honour, adding that the newspaper had done well since inception.

Earlier in his welcome address, Managing Director and Editor-in-chief of New Telegraph Newspaper, Mr. Ayodele Aminu, said the award was put in place to assess and reward hardworking Nigerians in governance, industry and other spheres of life.

He said the newspaper believes that such honours would spur the awardees to achieve greater accomplishments in national development.

At the ceremony, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, SAN, was awarded Minister of the year, while Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo was honoured for securing Nigeria’s oil assets with integrity and patriotism.
