Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, received the prestigious Award of Excellence at the inaugural Warri International Film Festival, recognizing his exceptional support for Nollywood and transformative impact on Warri.
The award ceremony, held at the GT Events Hall in Warri, gathered filmmakers, cultural promoters, and key stakeholders from the creative industry, celebrating Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to infrastructure renewal and urban regeneration that boosts Delta State’s creative economy.
Also honored were Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, member of the House of Representatives for Warri Federal Constituency, and Hon. Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council.
Receiving the award on behalf of the Governor, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, expressed gratitude to the organizers for acknowledging the Governor’s vision and developmental efforts.
“Receiving this award is a testament to Governor Oborevwori’s unwavering support for Nollywood and his transformative agenda for Warri. His initiatives in infrastructure renewal, enhancing security, and social empowerment are already yielding impactful results,” Aniagwu stated.
He emphasized the award’s significance in reaffirming the Governor’s commitment to restoring Warri as a vibrant commercial and cultural hub in the Niger Delta.
Hon. Weyinmi Agbateyiniro announced plans for a film village in Warri by 2026, aimed at boosting the city’s film industry while promoting creative interests and attracting investments.
Festival founder Mr. Alex Eyengho lauded Governor Oborevwori as a “visionary leader” whose policies foster artistic expression and cinematic growth. He noted that the festival aims to spotlight local and international films and inspire emerging filmmakers, enhancing Warri’s cultural status.
With this recognition, Governor Oborevwori joins a distinguished group of public leaders championing the creative sector’s growth and contributing to the socio-economic revival of Warri, promising to inspire new talents and attract further investments in Delta State’s film industry.
