The Executive Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government council, Hon. Pastor Jude Chukwunwike, has raised serious concerns over the deteriorating sanitary condition of the popular Ogwashi-Uku Abattoir, describing it as a pressing public health issue that demands immediate attention.
Speaking through the Vice Chairman,Hon Patricia Ekwutozam Adolue, during the November edition of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, Chukwunwike commended residents for turning out in large numbers, but lamented the unhygienic practices observed at the abattoir.
He warned that such poor attitudes toward cleanliness could expose the community to avoidable disease outbreaks.
He stressed that an economic facility as critical as an abattoir—whose services directly impact every household—must reflect the highest standards of cleanliness, “as neat as snow,” to safeguard public health.
As the dry season and festive period approach, the council chairman urged residents to intensify efforts toward maintaining clean and safe surroundings.

He reassured the public of his administration’s commitment to improving environmental hygiene, strengthening sanitation systems, and prioritizing the well-being of the people.
At the Ogwashi-Uku Post Office Junction and Agidiasei Junction, Pastor Chukwunwike also faulted the conduct of residents and commercial motorcyclists who continued to loiter during the approved sanitation hours, despite clear government directives.
The November edition of the sanitation exercise witnessed the active participation of the Mobile Court, security agencies, local vigilante groups, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (Aniocha South Chapter), the Red Cross, political appointees, and other stakeholders, who collaborated to enforce compliance with environmental laws and ensure a cleaner, healthier Aniocha South.
