The prestigious Urhobo socio political group, Urhobo Peoples Integrity Organisation( UPIO) has pledged its support for the Peoples Democratic Party( PDP) Delta State governoship candidate Rt Hon Sheriff Francis Oborevwori.
This was contained in the address of the National Secretary of UPIO Olorogun Jerry Eruvbedede during the group ‘ s visit to Rt Hon Oborevwori at his Osubi residence on Thursday 24th November 2022 .
Eruvbedede explained that the UPIO ‘ s decision to support the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly in Delta State governoship race was because of his interest for the Urhobos and other Deltans .
” We are here to congratulate you on your Supreme Court victory and to also tell you that we shall campaign for you in all the 24 kingdoms of Urhobo Nation without asking for any financial assistance from you. “
The National Secretary of UPIO had earlier disclosed that the group was comprised of middle class leaders of Urhobo origin.
He disclosed also that UPIO was formed for the propagation , protection and promotion of Urhobo interest.
Eruvbedede further listed some of the achievements and struggles of UPIO to include the fight for restoration of the suppressed Sapele Constituency 11 among others.
He thanked Rt Hon Oborevwori for the warm reception accorded the group just as he also commended him for his humility.
Rt Hon Oborevwori the PDP Delta State Governoship candidate expressed appreciation to members of the group for the visit and their promise just as he pledged to partner with UPIO in the campaign.
High point of the event was the Presentation of a giant size portrait photograph of Rt Hon Sheriff Francis Oborevwori to him by Olorogun Jerry Eruvbedede.
