The Urhobos of Warri, ( Okere – Urhobo and Agbarha Kingdoms) under the auspices of Warri Urhobo National Congress have urged the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to as a matter of National interest respect and implement the Supreme Court Order which recently ordered the delineation of Political units/ Wards in the three Local Government Areas of Warri South, Warri South West and Warri North that made up the Warri Federal Constituency.
In a letter to the National Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu,
signed by High Chief Westham Adehor, JP, Chairman, Olorogun Victor Okumagba JP, Secretary, Chief Isaac Emifoniye JP, Vice Chairman and Hon.Mark Ikpuri, Ex Official, on behalf of the Urhobos of Warri, Warri South Local Government Area, made available to newsmen in Warri Delta State, declared that they have suffer grave Social, Economic and Political deprivation and marginalization from the hands of their neighbor as a result of the wrong delineation of Political Wards / Units in the Warri Federal Constituency, Most especially in Warri South Local Government Area.
They disclosed that despite the Supreme Court Judgement of December, 2 2022, Suit No,SC/413/2016, between Chief George Tinimini,9 Others Versus INEC delivered in favour Chief George Tinimini authorizing the Commission to carry out unit / Ward delineation before the 2023 General Elections, some Candidates contesting Elections under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party PDP in Warri Federal Constituency and Delta South Senatorial District are pushing the Commission through the Delta State Resident Electoral Commissioner to conduct Elections in the Federal Constituency.
According to the Supreme Court Order which states that;
“An Order of this Honourable Court compelling the Defendant (INEC) It’s Agents,Privies, Servants, and assigns to conduct a fresh delineation of all that Electoral Wards,/ Poling Units in Warri South West, Warri North,Warri South Local Government Areas of Warri Federal Constituency,in Delta State for the purpose of future Elections “
“Adding that at a stakeholders meeting with the Commission Officials February,1 2023, in Asaba they (Urhobo Political Leaders) insisted that the Commission must carried the delineation as ordered by the Supreme Court as Failure to do so within 2 Week of receiving the letter they will be left with no other option ” But to set the wheel of action into motion without further recourse or delay “
“It is our fervent wish and demand that you obey and commence the delineation process as ordered by the Supreme Court, your Commission has been sufficiently informed by this letter and not to be mislead by Politicians,”
