Leaders and stakeholders from Warri Federal Constituency are rallying support for All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain High Chief Promise Lawuru, urging him to enter the race for the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
This urgent appeal was voiced during a press conference in Udu, UdU Local Government Area of Delta State gathering prominent figures from the constituency’s three major ethnic groups: Ijaw, Urhobo, and Itsekiri.
The coalition, under the Warri Federal Constituency Peoples Forum (WFCPF), advocated for Lawuru to represent the Warri Federal constituency ( Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South West local government Areas .)
Dcn. Engr. Godspower Benekiegha, speaking for the forum, highlighted extensive consultations within the community, emphasizing Lawuru’s humanitarian efforts and leadership qualities. “We are calling on him to contest for the Federal House of Representatives in 2027.
This is a critical call for leadership based on trust and confidence in his capabilities,” he asserted.
The forum also expressed appreciation for the leadership of Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori and President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, passing a vote of confidence in their governance and developmental initiatives.
While acknowledging the contributions of past representatives, the forum stressed the pressing need for a new leadership approach to tackle economic challenges and drive comprehensive development in the Warri area.
Other speakers including Edema Bawo Wesley from Warri North, Panama Gabriel Panama from Warri South West and Chief Mason Aghokigho Igiegie from Warri South also echoed the call, citing Lawuru’s philanthropy and generosity across the constituency.
“We came here today to call on Chief Promise Lawuru to contest the Warri federal constituency election come 2027. We have found in him the personality that is beyond redemption and based on that; we are saying that the call we have come here for; he must oblige to that.”
“A lot of people know about him, they know about his (Lawuru) generosity and philanthropic work he has exhibited amongst the people of Warri federal constituency. And it’s on this basis we want him to contest so that we all can join him to campaign and win this election.”
Women leaders, including Chief (Mrs.) Onome Okumagba, voiced strong backing for Lawuru, noting his inclusive approach towards women and emphasizing their commitment to leading his campaign should he decide to run.
Responding to the Forum’s request, Lawuru expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him, but requested time for further consultations with his family and political allies before making a final decision.
“I appreciate your encouragement and the call to contest. Please grant me time to consult widely before I respond to this heartfelt invitation,” Lawuru stated.
The political landscape in Warri is heating up as constituents await Lawuru’s decision, keen for a representative who can bring a new vision for development and empowerment to the region.
