The acting Chairman, Delta State Civil Service Commission, DSCSC, Lady Roseline Eno Amioku (JP), will be the Mother of the Day at Year 2024 edition of Maris Annual Public Service Lecture.

A statement issued by the Secretary, Maris Trust Council, MTC, organisers of the well attended annual event, Comrade Fidelis Egugbo, disclosed that Lady Amioku has accepted to attend the lecture as Mother of the Day.

According to Egugbo, the Vice Chancellor, University of Delta, UNIDEL, Agbor, Prof. Stella Chinye Chiemeke, will be the Guest Speaker at the lecture and she will speak on the topic, “Flight Of Talents: Navigating Nigeria’s Brain Drain Predicament.”

Egugbo said, “It is a thing of joy that as Wednesday of the Holy Week, that is, the Wednesday before Easter Sunday draws near, God is putting everything in place for us to have a successful Year 2024 edition of Maris Annual Public Service Lecture.

“Lady (Chief) Roseline Eno Amioku (JP) is the acting Chairman, Delta State Civil Service Commission and she will be the Mother of the Day at this year’s edition of Maris Annual Public Service Lecture.

“With her acceptance, Chief Amioku has joined the league of Lady Esther Elue, Dr. Cecilia Ibru, Dr. (Mrs) Comfort Omon-Irabor, Chief (Barr.) Josephine Ada Kachikwu who were ‘Mother of the Day’ at previous editions of Maris Lectures.

“For this year’s lecture, prospective participants mooted the idea that if every Tom, Dick and Harry had to leave Nigeria, what will be the fate of the country? Apparently referring to japa syndrome, and they also, insisted that a woman should be the Guest Speaker and bearing in mind that the lecture is participatory, in line with its design of identifying societal challenges and proffering solutions to them, an erudite scholar and manager of men and resources, Prof. Stella Chinye Chiemeke agreed to speak on the topic, ‘Flight Of Talents: Navigating Nigeria’s Brain Drain Predicament.’

“With such, Prof. Chiemeke has scored another first as she is the first Professor of Computer Science in Delta State, the first Vice Chancellor, University of Delta, UNIDEL, Agbor, and the first female to deliver Maris Annual Public Service Lecture.

“The lecture usually, has four discussants and the Special Adviser to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Chief Dr. Barry Gbe and former member, Delta State Universal Basic Education Commission, Chief Philomena Ededey Ugheminaye, have emerged as Discussants.

“Also, a successful businessman who delved into politics and is recording successes in ensuring effective representation of the people of Isoko Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Pastor Jonathan Ukodhiko, will be Chairman of occasion at lecture which will commence at 12 noon prompt on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, Delta State.

“We thank Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for making Delta conducive for such lecture to take place, Delta is safe and a tourist’s delight and for those who are coming in from outside the state, the Asaba International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the country and Asaba, the ancient city by the famous River Niger has hotels of international standards, very receptive people and boasts of tourists’ sites like the Mungo Park Building, The Lander Brothers’ Anchorage, the Mariam Babangida Leisure Park and Film Village, the yet to be harnessed Igwogwo Pit said to be the source of Anwai River, among others.”

As a young educationist, not satisfied with her level of education, she further topped her educational qualification with an NCE from the College of Education, Agbor and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Education from the then Bendel State University (now Ambrose Alli University), Ekpoma, in 1985 and 1991 respectively.

Equipped with these training, she gave her best to the teaching profession and in 2005, she became a certified registered member of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria.

Politically, as an educationist and administrator with proven ability and dexterity, Lady Amioku was appointed Chairman, Governing Council, Institute of Continuing Education (I.C.E.), Delta State (2013-August 2015), a position she occupied until her appointment as a Member of the Civil Service Commission in September 2015-2020, and re-appointment from October 2020-date.

She also holds the traditional title of the Ebrurho of Okpe Kingdom (Blessing to the Okpe People), a recipient of the prestigious Nigerian National Merit Award “Africa Living legend,” in 2023, needless to mention that she is a recipient of other numerous awards within the political and Christian terrain.

She is an active member of the PDP since 1999 and have served in various capacities including a member of the 88-Man Transition Committee for the Inauguration of the current Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sherrif F.O. Oborevwori.

Her favourite quote is, “I believe that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. My guiding principles include total reliance on the Almighty God, empathy, integrity, hard work, resilience, due diligence and effective job execution through effective delegation of duties. These and many other God-fearing principles and virtues are required by women to be in the top echelon now and in the future.”
