Following public outcry over the high handedness, disrespect and extortion of motorists passing through Uvwie local Government by Task force on Traffic matters, the Council Chairman Honorable Anthony Ofoni has directed the Dissolution of the Task Force with immediate effect.
The Dissolution takes effect from Thursday April second 2026.
A statement from the office of the Uvwie Council Chairman explained that numerous complaints have reached the council about activities of members of the Task Force whose operational modus is directly at variance with the mandate given to them by the council.
The statement announced that as a result all members of the Task Force should therefore stop parading themselves as officials of the Local Government while security agencies have been asked to arrest and deal with them according to the relevant laws.
Members of the public particularly motorists were asked to take note of the new development and resist any form of intimidation by those posing as Traffic Task Force as their activities henceforth is illegal.

Meanwhile, Actual News gathered that many people have fallen victim to the disbanded Traffic Task Force whose members harass and extort them demanding huge sums of money.
Members of the Task Force were seen Thursday morning at General Oneya Street where they directed vehicles to apparently in a bid to extort money from them.
General Oneya Street is about three hundred metres from the Uvwie Council Secretariat.
A concerned citizen and former Head of News and Current Affairs DBS Warri, Mr Linus Chima who approached them was harassed and slapped several times by some of the agents.
They even attempted to run him down with one of the vehicles they had seized.
It is believed that the disbandment of the Task Force on Traffic in Uvwie Local Government Area will bring relief to motorists and help to clean up the bad image which some members of the disbanded task force have given to the well meaning people of Uvwie Local Government Area.
