The Executive Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government , Hon. (Pastor) Jude Chukwunwike, on Friday, June 13, 2025, flagged off the second phase of distribution of relief materials to victims of the 2024 flood disaster.
The event which took place at the Executive Chairman’s Lodge, Ogwashi-Uku,attracted beneficiaries from the worst-hit communities — including Ewulu, Isheagu, Olodu, amongst others .
The beneficiaries received essential relief materials, aimed at cushioning the harsh aftermath of the devastating floods.
In a message of hope, Hon. Chukwunwike reassured the victims that they had not been forgotten and encouraged them to remain resilient in the face of adversity.
“No one can truly measure the pain and loss you have endured — from property to health, and the psychological trauma,” the chairman said. “But let this intervention remind you that government stands with you. We remain committed to your welfare and the rebuilding of your lives and livelihood.”
He also called on privileged individuals and corporate organizations to complement government’s efforts by supporting those in need, particularly in times of emergency and distress. “We all have a duty to lift one another. This is not just a government responsibility; it is a shared human obligation,” he noted.
Hon. Chukwunwike further emphasized the importance of environmental hygiene and disaster preparedness, urging residents to heed safety warnings and maintain clean surroundings to mitigate future risks. “We must begin to see disaster prevention as a collective responsibility,” he stressed.
In a heartfelt vote of thanks on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Ojiba of Isheagu, Chief Kenneth Nkitikaokwu, expressed gratitude to the Executive Chairman and the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
He lauded their swift and empathetic response to the crisis and praised their unwavering dedication to the welfare of the people.
“Your timely intervention shows that leadership is not just about policy but about people. You have shown us that in our pain, we are not alone,” Chief Nkitikaokwu said.
He also reaffirmed the community’s support for the state government’s MORE Agenda and the renewed hope initiative, pledging continued cooperation toward achieving shared developmental goals.
As the state continues to navigate the challenges of climate-related disasters, the event serves as a reminder that compassion, foresight, and unity are the pillars of effective governance.
