Commuters in Effurun Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State groaned in an unprecedented gridlock on some major roads in the area last weekend.
The said roads are East West Road by Ebrumede Roundabout popularly known as DSC Roundabout, PTI Road by Osubi Junction, Airport Road and Oilfield Road (an the axial road to Enerhen Junction.)
The gridlock lasted for several hours as there were no government traffic control officials to help stranded commuters at the said roads .
The causes of the gridlock on the East West , was due to Indiscipline by some unpatriotic drivers .
The unprecedented gridlocks on PTI Road by Osubi Junction was caused by the on going construction of the multi billion naira flyover project.
Similarly the traffic hold-up on Airport Road was caused by the massive drainage construction project at Ugboroke Junction where the road was barricaded for vehicular movements leading to the use of the other lane for vehicular movements by commuters.
While the Traffic Jam on the axial route to Enerhen Junction was caused by the highly deplorable state of the road .
The heavy down pour of last weekend did not help masters particularly on the Oilfield Road that was completely flooded with waters as lucky commuters , particularly commercial tricycle ( keke riders) went through hell to navigate the road while the unlucky ones got their keke stucked in the deep flooded holes on the road at as the time of filing this report.
Some residents and commuters who spoke to our correspondent made a passionate appeal for the construction of remedial road on the Oilfield Road by Union Bank off Enerhen Junction down to Walter Odeli and Etuwewe roads as they expressed fears that the said axial road will be a no go area at the peak of the rainy season.
