The President General of Uvwie General Improvement Union (UGIU), High Chief Abovi Hope Erute has applauded the Executive Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council, Chief Hon Anthony Ofoni, security agents and fire fighters for their prompt intervention on the oil tanker accident that claimed one life on the flyover bridge in Effurun Roundabout on Wednesday 8th April, 2026.
Erute who doubles as the Isirerha of Etche R’ Alegbo (traditional administrative unit) in Uvwie Kingdom made the commendation while reacting to the tragic accident in an exclusive media chat with our correspondent in his office along Petroleum Training Institute PTI Road Effurun on Thursday 9th April, 2026.
The President General of UGIU noted that but for the prompt intervention of the said persons , the unfortunate accident would have led to the scooping of fuel and would have also resulted explosion of the ill fated oil tanker and that this would have destroyed many lives and properties in the densely populated area.

As a way of preventing a future occurrence such an accident, he suggested that oil tanker owners should ensure that their oil tankers are road worthy at all times and that they should also be mindful of those they employed as drivers of their oil tankers. ” It is not uncommon to see untrained teenage male drivers behind the wheels of some of these oil tankers on the road. For the oil tankers and the products they carry, lives and properties are too important to be endangered in the hands these teanage inexperienced drivers. “
Erute also strongly advised that owners of oil tankers should employed experienced drivers who are not engaged in the consumption of illicit substances .
