The Director General of Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Devt. Agency, WUEDA, Hon. Prince Godwin Ejinyere says the Agency is poised at ensuring the speedy completion of the flood control projects in its mandate areas, in line with the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Prince Ejinyere stated this on Wed. June 19, 2024, when he led a team of engineers from the Agency, the principal consultant, JEFCON and Associates, as well as China Civil Engineering Construction Company, CCECC, to inspect the phase 2 of the flood control project in the twin cities of Warri and Effurun.
The WUEDA team made up of civil engineers inspected the ongoing construction of drains and culverts on Refinery Road Effurun, where it was agreed that more cover slabs be placed on top of the drains to serve as a walkway since the original walkway had been removed due to the expansion of the former drains.
The team also visited Maka Street, off Refinery Road Effurun, where the contractor, CCECC, was directed to quickly construct a cross culvert on that street. Prince Ejinyere and his team were also at the recently constructed concrete drainage channel, which starts from the water body opposite Chevron Nig. Ltd to Edo Guest House Road, Ekpan, that had drastically reduced the flooding problem in the area for years now.
The WUEDA team also inspected the discharge concrete drainage channel that would affect Ekpan Community shrine by Ekpan roundabout. It was observed that work on that route was not completed yet, so the contractor was directed to quickly mobilize back to site and demolish the building housing the shrine, since the community had been compensated.
The firm was also directed to complete the remaining 80m length of concrete channel to link it up with the existing box culvert by Ekpan roundabout.
Meanwhile, the DG of WUEDA, Hon. Prince Godwin Ejinyere and a Board member of the Agency, Mr. Kinsley Agbosa, led the team to the premises of Globe Star Company along Macdemont Road, Warri, where the contractor was to begin the construction of a major discharge drainage channel of 3m wide and 1.2m deep, and other drains of varying sizes, so as to solve the perennial flooding problem on Macdemont Road and its environs.
A representative of the company, Chief Egbedi received and conducted the team round the company premises down to the water side by the jetty. It was believed that the pipe racks close to the existing drain would not be affected by the excavation and construction of the new drains.
The WUEDA DG solicited for the cooperation of the host community and the Management of Globe Star towards executing the project aimed at bringing succour to residents of the area and the company.
The inspection team rounded off the visit at the Sokoh Estate/Egbe Layout Road in Uvwie LGA which is part of the recently awarded phase 3 of the flood control project in the Oil City. The contractor, CCECC, promised to start work without delay.
