The President General of the apex socio cultural body of Uvwie Kingdom, the Uvwie General Improvement Union ( UGIU), Chief Abovi Hope Erute has lauded the Executive Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council, Chief Hon Anthony Onoriode Ofoni for not taking Governor Sheriff Francis Oborevwori ‘ s marching order to local government council chairmen to develop their areas for granted.
Erute made the commendation in an exclusive media interaction with our correspondent at his office in Uvwie Hall along Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) , Effurun shortly after the commissioning of Ekpan Market on Monday 19th January, 2025.
The PG of UGIU who gave the Uvwie Local Government Council boss a pat on the back for his laudable achievements across the area so far, noted that it was an interesting development for the local government council to lay foundation and commissioning of projects within a short period in the local government area.
He however charged the Uvwie Local Government Council boss to extend his developmental strides to other markets in the local government area particularly the one at Ugbomro Community which he said was not yet a designated site.
Erute also stressed that infrastructural development was a major challenge in most of the market as he recalled that the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly suggested that the floor of Ekpan Market should be interlocked.
The PG of UGIU also stated that the cottage hospital at the Uvwie community of Iteregbi was a project that needs development.” All these will lead to more advancement of Uvwie Kingdom” he added.
While emphasizing the need to sustain the huge success of the last Uvwie Day celebration organized by UGIU, Chief Erute appealed for more funding from public spirited individuals, corporation bodies, particularly from markets in Uvwie Local Government Area through the permission of the Uvwie Local Government Area.
He disclosed that at as the time of filing this report, it was only the Effurun Market that relates with UGIU financially in the local government area and that it was an individual that donated the beautiful tent and sitting arrangements in the tent at the last Uvwie Day celebration.
Erute therefore appealed that the local government council to grant permission for the UGIU to start receiving funds from other markets in the local government area in order to sustain the success of the last Uvwie Day celebration and also meet its other purposes.
In his general remarks , the President General of Uvwie General Improvement Union (UGIU) called on residents of Uvwie Local Government Council to vote for Governor Oborevwori in 2027 to reciprocate his huge patronage of the area in terms of infrastructural and human development and also to continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy.
He also appreciated HRM Dr Emmanuel Ekemejewa Sideso JP OON Abe 1 the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom for his fatherly advice and immense contributions to the success of UGIU as he prayed for more years and prosperous reign of the traditional ruler.
