MONARCH APPRECIATES OKOWA,OTHERS OVER CONTRIBUTIONS TOWARDS UVWIE SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME

HRM Dr Emmanuel Ekemejewa Sideso (JP ) OON Abe 1 the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom has appreciated Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and Uvwie chiefs over their contributions towards Uvwie scholarship scheme .

This was contained in his key note address during this year’s Uvwie Education / Scholarship Administration Committee ( UESAC ) on Thursday 17th November , 2022 .

 

He disclosed that Governor Okowa has been contributing five million naira annually towards the scholarship scheme since 2018 .

Abe 1 explained that the scheme was aimed at promoting academic excellence among children of Indigenes and non indigenes in Uvwie Kingdom ” because education is the key to any meaningful development ” he added.

The Uvwie monarch then urged beneficiaries to be serious in their studies as he assured that the scheme was up to university level .

 

He however warned that unserious beneficiaries will be withdrawn from the scheme .

 

The Chairman of the committee Professor John Arubayi , a retired Deputy Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun ( FUPRE ) had earlier in his address , affirmed that Abe 1 initiate the scheme on ascension to the throne .

 

He also affirmed that the award was on merit through written examinations.

The erudite professor of physics however disclosed that the Uvwie monarch graciously approved an award of scholarship in the scheme to a member of Uvwie Emah ( royal ) Dance Group, Master Trust Williams for promoting Uvwie culture .

The sum of four million , seven hundred eighty thousand naira was disbursed for this year’s award .

The value of money for this year’s awardees was also increased by one hundred percent.

However the cut-off marks for this year’s awardees was equally increased to sixty percent and above by the committee.

 

Beneficiaries and their parents who spoke to our correspondent commended and appreciated the Uvwie monarch for the gesture.

High point of the event was the presentation of cheques to the awardees by the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom.
