In an unprecedented display of unity and respect, the serene Oviore-Ovu community in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State momentarily paused its daily rhythm on Friday, March 8th, 2024.

The occasion? A grand burial ceremony for the late Pa Dickson Dikrere, the father-in-law of esteemed Federal Lawmaker, Rt Hon Julius Pondi.

The burial event, which could easily be mistaken for a vibrant carnival, brought the community to life in ways never seen before. It was a day when the entire Oviore-Ovu stood still, as people from various backgrounds and walks of life converged to pay their respects.

The gathering was so immense that attendees likened it to being part of a bee swarm, with many not realizing the scale of the event until it unfolded before their eyes.

Rt Hon Julius Pondi, who represents the Burutu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has long been a figure of prominence within the community.

However, his decision to commemorate the life of his father-in-law in such a grand manner has only deepened the community’s admiration for him. Pa Dickson Dikrere, who passed away at the age of 81, was honored in a ceremony that saw the attendance of not just local residents but dignitaries from across the state and beyond.

Among the notable attendees were Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Minister of State for Petroleum, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Senator Ede Dafinone, Senator Edesiri Aguariavwodo. The event also saw a gathering of other prominent figures such as Rt Hon Thomas Ereyitomi, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, Rt Hon Lovette Idisi, Chief Frank Omare, Dr Michael Tidi, Hon. (Pharm) Victor Ofobrukueta, Rt. Hon. Solomon Funkekeme, Chief Johnbull Ejovi, Chief Tunde Smooth, Chief Ayiri Emami, Amaju Pinik, Chief Great Ogboru, Chief Bernard Edewor, a host of national assembly members, top government officials, captains of industry, traditional chiefs and host of others.

The burial ceremony was not just a testament to the life and legacy of Pa Dickson Dikrere but also a reflection of the deep-rooted cultural values and communal spirit of the Oviore-Ovu community. It was a day that underscored the community’s capacity for unity, respect, and celebration of life, leaving a lasting impression on all who were part of the event.

As the community moves forward, the grandeur and solemnity of the day’s proceedings will undoubtedly remain etched in the hearts and memories of those who witnessed it, marking a significant chapter in the communal life of Oviore-Ovu.
