The executive chairman of Uvwie local government, Chief Anthony Ofoni has declared War Against illicit drugs and substance in Uvwie local government area of Delta State.
Chief Ofoni made the declaration during a town hall and stakeholders meeting held on Wednesday.

The Council chairman while stating that the problem of drug abuse deserved urgent attention stated that any community where illicit drug sellers and consumers are caught the leaders of such community would be held accountable.
He however asked the leaders of the various communities in Uvwie local government area to avoid taking hard drugs and help the council in the fight against drug abuse .
The Uvwie council Boss advised sellers of hard drugs to relocate from the local government or face the full wrath of the law when caught.
Chief Ofoni revealed that the state Governor, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, HRM Dr. Emmanuel Sideso OON Abe 1 ,the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Olorogun Festus Keyamo, SAN, the Chairman of Delta State Internal Revenue Services, Chief Solomon Ighrakpata and other leaders from the local government are against drug abuse in Uvwie local government and are with him on the fight to reduce it to the bearest minimum in order to safe the lives of youths using hard drugs as they are threat to the society.
During the town hall and stakeholders meeting, critical issues were dissected, challenges were identified, solutions were proffered, and resolutions were made to curtail the pattern of drug abuse in Uvwie Local Government.
An Asst. Superintendent of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency,NDLEA 𝐌𝐫 Agbo 𝐓𝐨𝐜𝐡𝐮𝐤𝐰𝐮 gave a detailed explanation of drug abuse, drugs/substances that are commonly abused, and the pitiful consequences of indulging in drug abuse, such as insanity, general health challenges, loss of job and opportunities, amongst others.
He warned consumers of hard drugs to desist from the act for the sake of their health and wellness.
Also speaking counsel to the Uvwie Local Government Council, 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐀𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞 and the Unuevworo of Eche R’Oriokpor,𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐎𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐰𝐨, spoke on the legal aspect of drug abuse , the implication of either selling or consuming hard drugs on the individual which includes spending several wasted years behind bars, as well as demolition of properties of sellers of hard drugs.
The President General of Uvwie General Improvement Union(𝗨𝗚𝗜𝗨) and Esierha of eche r’ Alegbor, 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐇𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐄𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐞, explained that drug abuse does not only have direct consequences on the individual, it also leaves a huge consequences for societies that abate it.
The security personnel who spoke during the gathering solicited the support of community leaders and youths in the fight against drug abuse
The meeting was well attended by the council vice chairman, the speaker of the legislative arm, and the secretary of the council,Uvwie chiefs, security personnel amongst others.
