The concerned stakeholders of Orogun Efe Kingdom have commended the Delta State government for setting up reconciliation committee to resolve the crisis threatening the peace of the kingdom
In a communiqué signed by His Highness Jacob Edafe (Okpara of Unukpo), His Highness Thomas Oberhiri (Okpara of Emonu) and His Highness Joseph Eseogu Igidi (Okpara of Ogwa), they debunked allegation that the three Ekparas representing the sub-clans of Orogun Efe Kingdom signed a document for the issuance of staff of office, purportedly on behalf of the five sub clans constituting Orogun Kingdom.
According the stakeholders, such act was a desperate attempt to deceive the state government into issuing a Staff of Office which could threaten the peace and unity of the kingdom.
According to them, in response to the tension, the state government established a reconciliation committee to investigate and resolve the matter but during the committee’s visit to the kingdom, some people preventing them from engaging with key principal officers from the various sub-clans.
The traditional rulers explained that the three Ekparas who were removed from the palace for over six months did not sign any document requesting for issuance of Staff of Office. “In fact, they have been denied access to the palace, as the gates have remained locked against them and other principal stakeholders. The notion that they signed such a crucial document under such circumstances is not only illogical but also highly suspicious.”
According to them, several respected chiefs and leaders within Orogun have intervened in an attempt to restore peace to no avail.
“We hereby call on Your Excellency to direct a thorough investigation into this matter. We also urge the relevant security agencies to identify and prosecute all those found culpable.
The sanctity of traditional institution must be protected, and actions capable of plunging communities into crisis must not be allowed to go unpunished”.
