Demonstration Secondary School of the College of Education in Warri,Delta State celebrated its 28th annual inter-house sports competition, where Red House triumphed as champions in this year’s event.
The spirited sports day took place on the college grounds and attracted a large audience, including academic staff, parents, and guardians, all present to support and cheer for the student athletes.

Young athletes competed fiercely in various track and field events, including the 100m, 200m, and 1500m races for both boys and girls, as well as a tug of war contest.
This year’s event was more than just a test of physical endurance; it highlighted the college community’s commitment to nurturing potential national and global sports stars.
Provost of the College of Education Warri Dr. Dickson Oyovwi, remarked that the inter-house sports competition not only enhances physical and mental fitness in students but also cultivates crucial values such as friendship, teamwork, and unity.
He encouraged parents to support their children in sports, highlighting the importance of instilling a spirit of fair play and resilience.
The day’s celebrations were further enhanced by speeches from the chairman of the occasion, Dr. Ufuoma Onavwie, Director of General Studies Education, and a representative from the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA), both of whom praised the efforts of Demonstration Secondary School in organizing the event.
They concurred that initiatives like this are essential for identifying and developing future athletic talents.
Principal of Demonstration Secondary School, Dr. Comfort Osiobe expressed that the competition serves to engage students in sports, emphasizing that education encompasses physical, psychological, and mental development.
She encouraged students to maintain physical fitness alongside their academic pursuits, citing the inter-house competition as a vital platform for fostering inborn talents that could lead to Olympic greatness.

Red House emerged as champions, followed by Blue House in second place with 208 points, while Green House secured third with 178 points.
Yellow and White Houses rounded out the rankings, finishing in fourth and fifth places, respectively.
