The Executive Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government Area, Hon. Pastor Jude Chukwunwike has commended the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, for placing the welfare of workers particularly those in the Unified Local Government Service Commission, at the forefront of his administration’s priorities.
Pastor Chukwunwike described Governor Oborevwori as a “worker-friendly governor”, noting that the prompt payment of salaries, improved emoluments, and the substantial monthly wage bill reflect the governor’s renewed vision to uplift the lives of Deltans.
The Chairman gave the commendation on Monday, August 11, 2025, while welcoming the State leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), led by Comrade Ogberetitinor Obatarhe, during a courtesy and familiarization visit to the Executive Council Complex, Ogwashi-Uku.
Represented by the Secretary of the Council, Hon. Prince Tony K Ebube Pastor Chukwunwike called for a united front within the labour movement, stressing the importance of collaborative partnership between unions and council leadership in advancing workers’ interests.
He urged the union to always explore internal conflict resolution mechanisms during industrial disputes, assuring them of his administration’s continuous prioritization of workers’ welfare and a conducive working environment.
Earlier in his remarks, Comrade Obatarhe congratulated the Chairman on his one-year anniversary of impactful and redefining governance in Aniocha South, describing his strides as “breathtaking and people-centred.” He explained that the visit formed part of NULGE’s statewide engagement tour of council leaderships, aimed at strengthening synergy and solidarity.
While commending the Chairman’s commitment to the payment of the minimum wage and his understanding of workers’ needs as a veteran council staff, the NULGE leader called for further improvements in conditions of service, including support for staff capacity-building through seminars and workshops.
Comrade Obatarhe also lauded ALGON and Governor Oborevwori for ensuring that terminal benefits and gratuities of retirees in the state are now paid within one year of disengagement, an achievement he described as “rare and commendable in today’s public service.”
The NULGE leadership pledged unwavering support for the Governor’s administration, citing his pro-worker achievements as basis for continued partnership ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting had in attendance local government appointees, NULGE executives from Aniocha South chapter, and principal officers from the Delta State wing of the union.
