The Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Comrade Wehinmi Agbateyinro, says his administration is executing projects beyond the ordinary to transform the local government area.

Agbateyinro made this known when the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, led by its Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, visited the council on a project inspection tour.

Represented by the Deputy Leader of the Legislative Arm, Rt Hon Prince Emmanuel Omasan, the chairman highlighted key infrastructural, educational, health, agricultural, environmental and welfare projects executed within one year.

He said the rehabilitation of a two-kilometre stretch of road from the NPA New Port Gate to Proteco along the NPA Express Road is nearing completion.

The council is also constructing a half-kilometre Nupe-UCC Road at Hausa Quarters and Igbudu Market area, with dual drains and stone base, now 90 percent completed.

Another major project is the construction of a 600-metre bridge at Ifiekporo Town to link an island described as the Transatlantic New City of Warri, expected to decongest the main town.

Agbateyinro said the council has zero tolerance for potholes, rehabilitating failed road portions, including 200 metres of Omadino-Obodo Road, to ease traffic flow and reduce vehicle wear.

Warri South was the first council to comply with the Delta State directive to open accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

He said within one year in office, the council constructed a one storey building complex in Igbudu Market, comprised 24 lockup shops to replace the space of the structure lost to fire outbreak.

He said operations at Pessu Market have been revived with the construction of a modern abattoir and solar-powered cold room to improve meat preservation and processing.

A meat fair shop is also under construction at Pessu, which will allow residents to order processed meat online for home delivery upon completion.

The council has passed and assented to 10 people-oriented laws, including revenue review, traffic enforcement, property enhancement and indiscriminate dumping of waste.

On education, the council provided scholarships for 1,000 pupils, paid common entrance and JAMB fees, distributed 8,500 notebooks to 37 public schools, and supported school sports development.

This support led Ighogbadu Primary School to win the Zenith Bank Headmaster’s Cup in Delta State.

In the health sector, Agbateyinro said medical assistance worth millions of naira was provided to accident victims, cancer patients and other staff in need of support.

Emergency ambulance services are operational, and the council recorded 100 percent success in the recent distribution of insecticide-treated nets.

On agriculture, the council acquired 20 hectares of land at Orere-Uba for farming, trained staff on agricultural production in Akwa Ibom and Oyo States, and allocated two percent of its budget to agriculture.

For environmental sanitation, canals and drains were cleared, 100 sweepers have been engaged, alongside sanitation marshals and a coordinator, under the “Project Keep Warri Clean” initiative.

In security, operational vehicles for security agencies were rehabilitated to enhance patrol and response capabilities.

The council also provides monthly transport stipends, financial assistance to staff, N20,000 monthly stipends to the elderly and N10 million each to 10 markets as revolving loans.

Agbateyinro said these projects and programmes demonstrate the administration’s commitment to people-oriented governance and inclusive development in Warri South Local Government Area.

“Our goal is to leave Warri South far better than we met it. Every project we execute is focused on improving lives, creating opportunities and preparing for a greater future,” he said.

Earlier in an interactive session at the council secretariat, the Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, disclosed that the visit was part of a broader initiative by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, to develop a comprehensive local government scorecard and recognize outstanding performance in critical areas such as physical infrastructure, environmental cleanliness, and social impact.

The essence of this initiative, according to Comrade Oyowe, was to promote excellence, transparency, and healthy competition in local government administration across the state.

The NUJ team and some leaders of Warri South Local Government Council later in a motorcade visited some of the projects for on-the- spot verifications.
