DTHA Committee On Works Inspects Ongoing Mega Road Projects,Charges Contractors To Follow Approved Designs

The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Special Projects on Thursday, vowed to join forces with the State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori at ensuring quality and timely completion of all ongoing infrastructure projects across the state.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon Oboro Kenneth Preyor, made the commitment on the first day of a three week intensive oversight visits to some ongoing mega road, bridge and drainage projects, embarked upon by the Delta State Government across the three senatorial districts of the state.

The Lawmakers inspected Sectors A, C1 and C2 of Ughelli-Ozoro-Kwale-Asaba dualization road project, the Gulley Control project at Ogwashi-Uku, and the Kwale-Beneku road and bridge project in Ndokwa West Local Government Area.

Hon Preyor along side other members of the committee, including, Hon Emmanuel Sinebe, James Augoye, Ferguson Onwo, Edafe Emakpor, Bridget Anyafulu and Ebitonmo Alapala, stressed the need for Contractors handling various government projects to ensure that they are completed to the highest standards and within stipulated timeframe.

Preyor who represents Bomadi State Constituency and Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Special Bills, explained that the oversight visits to the project sites is a constitutional assignment which must be carried out with all seriousness in line with global best practice as well as transparency and accountability goal of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s led administration.

The Lawmaker emphasized that there must be value for money on every project embarked on by the state government, saying that the Delta State Assembly in collaboration with other relevant stakeholders would help ensure that projects are executed cost-effectively, without compromising quality.

Preyor said contractors must follow approved designs, adhered to specifications and develop plans that would guarantee long lifespan of the infrastructures.

The Chairman Assembly Committee on Works and Special Projects called on residents in the state to maintain all government projects as well as support the Governor in the delivery his MORE agenda

Preyor assured that the 8th Delta State Assembly led by Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, will help ensure judicious use of the State’s resources in meeting the needs of Deltans, even as he enjoined the people to maintain their support and appreciation to Governor Oborevwori as he is committed to ensuring all round development in the state.

The Lawmaker expressed optimism that the Kwale-Beneku bridge which is near completion will greatly impact on the welfare and economic activities of residents in the locality.

He commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for adequately funding all ongoing projects, adding that the state government always pay contractors as and when due.

At the Sector A of the dualization project, the Committee Chairman commended the construction company for working according to specification and for promising to deliver the project by June 2025.

Preyor while also commending the indigenous construction company for the Kwale-Beneku bridge, urged the Ministry of Works and firms handling the sector C1 and C2 dualization project to ensure proper finishing and early completion of the project.

The oversight inspection visit to other ongoing projects across the three senatorial district continues.
