DELTA STATE– In a decisive stand on road safety, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has pledged that his administration will focus on enhancing safety measures rather than imposing punitive sanctions in response to the rising incidents of articulated truck accidents, particularly around the Ubu Bridge axis in Ogwashi-Uku along the newly constructed Ughelli–Asaba dual carriageway.
State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, emphasized that the government’s strategy aims to enforce traffic regulations and improve operational checks on heavy-duty vehicles without hindering the free movement of goods and services.
In light of a recent series of truck accidents – the latest occurring on December 30, 2025, marking the seventeenth incident on this route since its completion – Izeze called for a collaborative effort from road safety professionals and citizens to contribute practical suggestions to prevent future tragedies.
Eyewitness reports from the recent incident indicated that an articulated truck lost control near the Ubu Bridge, partially blocking the roadway but fortunately resulting in no casualties.

The driver attributed the mishap to mechanical failure, raising concerns about the recurrence of such incidents despite the installation of warning signs and speed limits.
