The Nigerian Youth Organisation (NYO) South-South Zone has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria
to Reactivate Niger Delta Seaports and extend the contract of Tantita Security Services to provide security in the Niger Delta region’s waterways.
The youth body made this appeal in a press release duly signed by the NYO South-South chairman, Dr. Gometi Crested and Grace Effiong, Secretary and made available to newsmen in Warri, Delta State.
The organisation believes that this move will facilitate the smooth operation of seaports, mitigate hardships, and promote economic stability in the region.
They raised concerned about the prevailing hardship in the region and they have lost confidence in the federal government’s development agencies, attributing this to perceived politicisation and self-serving leadership.
The organisation highlights the adverse effects of non-functional seaports in the region, including economic stagnation, unemployment, insecurity, and underdevelopment. They that despite being rich in oil and gas resources, the region remains one of the most underdeveloped in Nigeria.
The NYO South-South Zone calls on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate action to reactivate the seaports in the Niger Delta region to stimulate economic activities and alleviate poverty.
They commended Tantita Security Services for their effective performance in safeguarding oil facilities and express confidence in the leadership of High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), stating that they are convinced that the combination of Security agencies, Tantita and other relevant stakeholders would provide a peaceful and safe environment for the smooth operation of the Seaports in the region.
The youth body however urge Governors and other political leaders in the Niger Delta region to reassess their leadership approach, prioritizing the welfare of the people and taking deliberate actions to alleviate the current hardship in the region.
