PIA:Hostcom Leaders Pledge to Protect Oil Pipelines

leaders of Host communities in Delta Central District have pledged to provide the enabling environment for Oil companies operating in their domain to thrive in their Bussiness .

The leaders of the host communities made the pledge during a sensitization and awareness workshop on the provisions of the Petroleum industry Act ,PIA .

Our Correspondent reports that the chief executive of Nigeria Upstream petroleum Regulatory commission , Mr Gbega Komolafe who declared the event opened urged the host communities under Delta Central Trust to sustain the peace needed for development of their areas .

 

The chief executive officer of the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory commission NUPRC Mr Gbenga Komolafe an Engineer said the Host community development trusts would positively curb restiveness in oil communities and offer enabling environment for operators to thrive.

Mr Komolafe who Spoke through the Head Warri Regional office , Mr Benjamin Ogunnubi said the Trust will ensure and sustain peace and harmony between the oil communities and oil companies in their day- to- day management .

 

He noted that the commission is delighted to witness the implementation of several sections of chapter three of the PIA mandating the establishment of HCDTs for the purpose of fostering sustainable prosperity within host communities .

Some of the stakeholders from the oil communities including chief Pius Omasanuwa ,Mr Ebiotubo Akubukuro ,Chief Margret Onokevwo amongst others urged the NUPRC to ensure that the oil companies implement the PIA , pledging to protect the oil pipelines and avoid distruption of work at the companies inorder not to jeopardize the annual contribution of the allocation of three percent fund acured to them for the development of their communities

Also speaking during the sensitization forum , consultants and Oil companies Representatives including Mr Onyema Omenuwa , Mr Larry malami amongst others said the essence of the trusts was to integrate oil bearing communities into the value chain and effectively cater for the development of the impacted oil communities
They said the host Community fund initiatives would guarantee seamless operations of the oil companies and also safe guard against vandalism and other forms of sabotage of oil companies .

They spoke on topics including Dispute resolution under chapter 3 of PIA , Trust financing and utilization of host community trusts fund , host communities as integral stakeholders in the oil companies.
