Couples in the Anglican Diocese of Warri have been charged to build marriages with purpose and eternity in view, as the diocese marked its 2026 Fathers Couples Day Celebration on Saturday, June 20, at the Land of Rest and New Things, opposite DBS Edjeba, Warri.

Speaking on the theme _“Living With The End In Mind”_ drawn from 1 Peter 4:7, Sir Godwin Orhurhu, KSC, said the celebration was not merely about romance but about covenant, purpose, and accountability before God.

“Many couples are busy. Busy with mortgages, busy with children, busy with careers. But busyness is not the same as direction. You can be very active and still be drifting,” Orhurhu told the gathering. “Living with the end in mind asks every couple: When you stand before God and give account of your union, what story will your marriage tell?”
Citing Ecclesiastes 12:14 and Psalm 90:12, he urged couples to invest in their marriages, noting that “God will bring every work into judgment,” including how spouses loved, forgave, prayed together, and raised their families.
“When you know where you are going, you stop wasting time on what doesn’t matter. You speak differently to your spouse. You serve differently. You pray differently,” he said.

He said the theme challenges couples to remain focused on God’s purpose, nurture godly homes, and make decisions that will impact their future and eternal destination.
“In a world filled with distractions and uncertainties, this theme challenges us to live intentionally, count the cost, and build relationships that honor God,” Ezewu stated, thanking all who supported the celebration.
In a pep talk, Ven. Benedict Akpoguma charged Christians to be alert and vigilant, warning that “the devil moves to and fro to look who he will devour.” He urged believers to stand firm, avoid temptation, and remain prayerful while studying the Word of God to avoid deception by “fake pastors.”

Akpoguma also charged couples to be disciplined and love each other deeply. “Take care of your spouse and children. Let us kick against hatred in our homes,” he said.
