In a bid to curb maternal and child mortality, Seven Rotary Clubs in Rotary international District 9141 have donated delivery kits to Pregnant women and disinfectants to three Health Centers in Ughelli South, Uvwie and Okpe local Government Areas of Delta state.
The Presidents of the clubs disclosed that the gesture is part of the seven areas of focus of Rotary international which is maternal and child health, Disease prevention and treatment as well as Environment Protection
The Collaborating Rotary Clubs donated delivery kits to pregnant women and disinfectants to the three health centers at Otokutu,Alaka and Osubi .
The gesture is aimed at raising advocacy for disease prevention.

President of Rotary Club of Plantation city, Rotarian Kingsley Azubuike, President Rotary Club of
Warri Central, Rotarian Uwagbai Isioma, President Rotary Club of Effurun Gateway Rotarian Fadoju Israel, and President Rotary Club of Effurun Rotarian Florence Chukwuebuni all said that Rotary international believes that a healthy Nation begins from ensuring good health of mother and child. They harped on the need for sensitization of pregnant women at the primary health delivery points with the need to observe basic health routines.
For their parts Presidents of Rotary Clubs of Osubi , Effurun City center and Effurun GRA , Rotarians Gloria Omamogho,Darlington Odogwu and Linus Albert added that Rotary has contributed significantly to the global health needs especially as it concerns eradication of Polio.
They advised women and nursing mothers to adhere to advise given by medical professionals and highlighted the dangers of seeking alternatives particularly from quacks.
At the medical outreach, Assistant District Governors and Past District Governors in the district including Rotarians Wilson Kokarhiaye ,Kehinde Oisemaye , Michael Ehezenia ,Maria Edirin-Niemogha and Reginald Patrick-Nnoshiri also stressed that the presentation of delivery kits underscores Rotary international’s response to meeting health needs of the vulnerable particularly in these difficult economic times.
They added that Rotary will continue to create opportunities and impactful society through its humanitarian gestures and projects.
The Matrons and some of the benefitting health centers in Osubi, Otokutu and Alaka appreciated the seven Rotary clubs for the gesture noting that their gifts would go a long way in addressing some of the health needs of the pregnant women.
