..says Urhobo benefiting fairly from Tantita security contract

The leader Egbema Brotherhood (EBH), High Chief Promise Lawuru (aka Ozigizaga) has called on the leadership of the Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) to paly ‘a fatherly role’ in national issues instead of succumbing to divisive ‘bring him down’ mentality.

Alaowei Lawuru made this call in a press briefing at his country home in Egbema, weekend, while reacting to a recent statement by UPU leadership advocating for the cancellation of the Tantita Security Contract, awarded by the federal government. He expressed concern that such calls diminish the UPU’s standing as a premier organization representing the Urhobo people.

He said; “I call on the Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) to play fatherly role in Niger Delta. Let us unite as one people, Urhobo, Ijaw, and Itsekiri, during these times. “It is not ideal for the UPU to belittle itself by calling for the revocation of a contract awarded to a Niger Delta son. Security is a collective concern, and the Tantita Security Services has also employed numerous Urhobo individuals, many of whom work within Ijaw territories.”

The Egbema Brotherhood Leader, emphasized the broader implications of such divisive actions. “Should the Ijaw community decide to prevent Urhobos from working in their territory, what ramifications would that entail? We must recognize that we are all interlinked and must support those contributing to our collective development.”

Lawuru highlighted the improvement in security and governance since the appointment of Tantita Security Services, noting that before their involvement, oil facilities were frequently subject to illegal bunkering, threatening national resources.

He stated, “Since Tantita took charge of safeguarding our oil installations, we have witnessed a rise in our GDP, peaking at an oil production rate of 1.7 to 2 million barrels per day. This surge has enabled state governors to initiate multiple infrastructure projects. For instance, the Delta state Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is building four different Flyovers at the same time. It is because of the free flow of oil that is making the governor to see funds to do those jobs”.

“So I appeal, because cancellation of Tantita Security Contract will be disastrous to the whole nation. This is not just a security company but also an organization that has volunteered itself to protect national assets”.

Lawuru while warning that the cancellation of the Tantita Security Contract would have detrimental effects, not only for the Niger Delta region, but for the entire nation, however noted that; “This organization (Tantita) has committed itself to protecting our national assets, and its dissolution would be a disaster for all. I therefore, urge the UPU leadership to advocate for unity and support the initiatives that foster the growth and safety of the Niger Delta region”.
