Polio Awareness:Rotarians Urge Parents To immunize Their Children

Awareness to get children within the ages of zero to five vaccinated and immunized against poliomyelitis in achieving zero polio cases in the world was re-echoed by Six Rotary clubs under District 9141.

 

The awareness walk by Rotary clubs of Ekpan, Warri Metropolis, Ovwian, and Effurun as well as Edjeba and Effurun GRA staged a polio awareness campaign in Effurun to stamp out polio completely from Nigeria through vaccination.

 

The awareness campaign which is a prelude to the world polio day featured free vaccination of children at the Alaka Health Center in Effurun, Uvwie local Government Area .

 

 

 

Speaking with Newsmen the Rotarians disclosed that Polio, a disease that has no known cure is a condition that affects children within the ages of zero to five and can disable a child for life but can only be prevented through immunization.

 

The Rotary clubs of Ekpan, Warri Metropolis and Ovwian as well as Effurun, Edjeba and Effurun GRA matched from airport junction through the popular jakpa junction to Alaka in Uvwie Local Government Area to sensitize the public on the danger of the virus and need for nursing mothers to get their infants vaccinated against the killer disease.

 

In their remarks, presidents of the various clubs including Rotarians Franca Ogbotobo Anyanwu Nicholas Otoboh and Osaro Igbinaduwa noted that Rotary club international remains resolute and determined to achieve the zero polio mandate .

“We shall continue with this awareness exercise untill Polio is eradicated from the World” Rtn Franca said. 

Chartered president of Rotary club of Warri Metropolis as well as Assistant governors and the Polio chairman, Warri Metropolis Rotarian Joy Amei who spoke on behalf of other polio chairmen reiterated the danger of polio and its ravaging effects especially in the African continent and admonished all to join the fight against the virus.

 

 

The sensitization walk exercise by the six clubs under District 9141 climaxed at the Alaka Health Center where children within the ages of zero to five were vaccinated.No
