A security group, Warri Urban Security Network (WUSN), has lauded the efforts of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operations under 63 Brigade Command of the Nigerian Army, Asaba in Delta State for combating crimes in most flashpoint areas across Delta state.
A statement by Chief Frank Akpodiete and Barrister Chinedu Ejiofor, Chairman and Secretary respectively, commended the 63 Brigade Commander, Brigadier General David Saraso, for bringing his wealth of experience to bear in ensuring the JTF Operatives carryout their assignment with utmost professionalism.
According to the statement made available to newsmen in Warri, the group scored the operatives of the JTF high in the area of intelligence gathering which had paid off in checkmating criminals in the affected areas.
The statement reads ,”We the members of the above named group have taken time out to carry out a study of the security situation within Warri metropolis and its environs which is our coverage area and other parts of the state and have discovered that the rate of violence crimes, mostly armed robbery and cultism as well as crude oil theft had in recent time reduced drastically”.
“First, lets look at Udu area that was notoriously known for its inter-ethnic feud between Aladja and Ogbe- Ijoh, both in Udu and Warri South West Local Government Area respectively, we discovered that the presence of the JTF under the Delta Hawk Ops has reduced tension among residents of the area”.
“In addition to this, the deadly cult clashes in Ovwian, Orunwohorun and its environs by our survey has reduced as well and these we have come to attribute to the prompt responses of the JTF team to the distress calls by residents of the affected communities”.
Continuing; “Then coming to the creek of the Warri South and South West, where cases of kidnapping, sea pirates and crude oil theft was at the alarming rate, we discovered that the activities of the JTF in conjunction with the operatives of Tompolo security outfit, Tantita, the activities of the criminals terrorizing these areas had reduced in recent times”.
“It is on this note we want to urge Brigadier General Saraso, Commander, 63 Brigade, Asaba and men and officers working with him under the JTF Operation to keep up the good work of protecting the lives and property of our people and also for safe guarding the nation’s critical assets of oil installations across the state”, it stated.
The Group revealed that In Warri urban, “we discovered that most flash point locations, notably Enerhen Junction, NPA Expressway, Jakpa road, Warri-Sapele road, Estate and Deco road, have witnessed drastic crime reduction due to the intimidating presence of the JTF operation under the Delta Hawks, who regularly patrol these areas”.
