Journalists under the umbrella of the Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) have been challenged to utilize their platforms as instruments for conflict prevention and national stability.
The call was made by guest lecturer Dr. Gideon Isikah during an event celebrating World Press Freedom Day 2026 at the DOPF Secretariat in Asaba.

Speaking on the theme, “Journalism as a Tool for Conflict Prevention and Peace Building,” Dr. Isikah noted that the role of the press is critical as Nigeria’s democracy faces pressure from insecurity and governance gaps.
Dr. Isikah emphasized that the public has an inherent right to the truth, urging journalists to rise above political propaganda and ethical lapse.
On Conflict Management, He noted that while conflict is not inherently negative, mismanagement leads to chaos.
He added that the media must guide society towards constructive dialogue as Watchdogs, Not Lapdogs.
The lecturer criticized “begging-bowl journalism,” urging practitioners to hold the government accountable rather than merely “packaging” political office holders for personal gain.
Addressing the digital age, he lamented the rise of sensationalism and lack of verification, stating that credibility remains the cornerstone of the profession.
The Executive Assistant on New Media to the Delta State Governor, Comrade Felix Ofou, lauded the forum’s independence. “Financial independence is the heart of the job,” he remarked, praising DOPF for creating a professional space for online publishers.

Earlier, the Chairman of DOPF, Comrade Emmanuel Enebeli, reaffirmed the forum’s commitment to sanitizing the digital space.

He highlighted that membership is strictly reserved for qualified professionals whose media outlets are duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
The event concluded with a collective resolve among members to promote shared national values and facilitate dialogue to reduce regional and national tensions.
