The Daughter of Senator Ike Ekweremadu , Ms Sonia has spoken about the sentencing of her parents, by the United Kingdom government.
Reacting, Sonia said she feels guilty about the conviction of her parents on conspiracy to harvest a human organ.
In an interview with BBC on Friday, she disagreed with the conviction of her parents.
The younger Ms Ekweremadu who is still undergoing dialysis blames herself for what has happened to her parents. “I feel guilty, I feel like all this has happened because of me.”
She is suffering from a health condition called Nephrotic Syndrome, where the kidney does not function properly.
Her survival depends on continuous dialysis for the rest of her life or a kidney transplant which she hopes to get
She said: “I understand the conviction, however, I personally disagree with it. That is from a very biased perspective as their daughter, I will obviously always back my parents.
“However, the law has taken its course, we just need to move on as one family.”
Actualnewsng.com had reported that a court in the United Kingdom sentenced Ekweremadu, to nine years and eight months in prison for an organ trafficking.
The court also sentenced his wife, Beatrice, to four years six months while the medical doctor who acted as a ‘middleman’ in the plot, Dr. Obinna Obeta, was sentenced to 10 years and his medical license was also suspended.
