College of Education (COE) Warri, held its 11th Induction for fresh graduates students into the teaching profession on Tuesday 5th May, 2026.
In his opening remarks, the Provost of the college, Dr Dickson Onovwakpoma Oyovwi JP ably represented by the Director Consultancy & Dean designate School of Arts and Science Dr Johnson Ebvie described the exercise as a mile stone to the inductees, saying that it is a building and stepping stone into the noble profession of teaching.
He therefore congratulated the inductees.
The Registrar / Chief Executive, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria ( TRCN ) Dr ( Mrs ) Ronke Soyombo ably represented by the zonal leader of the South South Zone of TRCN, Sarah Uge in her key note address, explained that TRCN is the regulatory body of teacher education and practice in Nigeria as stipulated in the TRCN mandate, established by decree 31( now Act Cap T3 of 2004. )
She explained also that TRCN is committed to ‘ ensuring only qualified and licensed individuals teach in our class rooms, promoting continuous professional development and upholding the dignity and respect of the teaching profession. ‘
The Registrar and Chief Executive of TRCN further urged the newly inducted teachers to uphold the code of conduct and professional ethics for Nigerian teachers, be life long learners continually on their skills and qualifications, serve as role models both inside and out side the classroom , inspire excellence through discipline , creativity, and integrity.
She added that” Teaching, the mother of professions is a sacred trust. Teaching is not just a job; it is a calling. It is one of the noble professions that shape all others due to its transformative role in human and societal development”
Dr Mrs Ronke Soyombo thanked the leadership of College of Education ( COE) Warri for collaborating with TRCN for upholding teacher education standards.
She also extended her appreciation to parents and guardians for believing in their children, College of Education, Warri and the value of education.
The Director Teaching Professionalism and Mentoring ( TRCN) , Dr Edna Abidde in her speech, stated that the inductees are needed to positively transformed the society just as she congratulated them for becoming professional teachers.
She was full of praises for the Provost of the college, Dr Dickson Onovwakpoma Oyovwi for his immense contributions to success of the inductees.
High points of the epoch making event were the administration of oath of allegiance to the inductees by the Zonal leader of the South South Zone of TRCN Sarah Uge and presentation of certificates to the inductees by key officials of the college present at the event.
