Cardinal John Onaiyekan has advised Political leaders in Nigeria to run the affairs of the Nation with the fear of God .

Cardinal Onaiyekan gave the advice on monday morning at the palace of the Ovie of Uvwie kingdom in Effurun Uvwie local government area of Delta State during early morning mass to commemorate St Charles Borromeo’s feast day .

correspondent reports that cardinal Onaiyekan commended the Uvwie monarch for putting God first in his daily activities.

Catholics worldwide celebrate St Charles Borromeo feat every November 4.
cardinal John Onaiyekan accompanied by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Warri ,Most Reverend Anthony Ewherido and other priests celebrated this year’s feat with the people of Uvwie kingdom at the palace of the Ovie of Uvwie kingdom, Abe the first.

In his homily cardinal Onaiyekan enjoined Nigerian politicians to have the fear of God and rule the people inline with God law inorder for them to deliver the dividends of Democracy to the grassroot especially in this present harsh economy.

He further stated that when leaders are honest and their ways are in line with God ways the people will complain less ,the poor will be assisted and the rich will not be afraid as everyone will be happy.

The former Catholic archbishop of Abuja ,Cardinal Onaiyekan said St Charles Borromeo was a great saint who was Known as a loving reformer who cared about people not just the rich and powerful but everyone.

He commended the Ovie of Uvwie kingdom Abe the first for behaving like St Charles Borromeo who combined earthly honour with spiritual activities ,lauding the Uvwie monarch and his family for their steadfastness in serving God .

At the end of the mass the Ovie of Uvwie kingdom HRM Dr Emmanuel Sideso,JP OON, Abe I thanked Cardinal Onaiyekan for joining him and his people to celebrate st Charles Borromeo feast at the Uvwie palace .

The Uvwie monarch who spoke through the secretary of Uvwie council of chiefs ,Chief Samuel Eshenake also thanked the cardinal for praying for the Kingdom to remain peaceful and prosperous,adding that his presence in Uvwie land has attracted more blessings to the kingdom .


The Uvwie monarch prayed God to continue to bless and guide the cardinal Who is known as a strong advocate for democracy and his fight against corruption in the country .
The chairman of Uvwie local government,Chief Anthony Ofoni was among Dignitaries that attended the mass.
